12.5" Newtonian with GEM and accessories. This one has been available for a few weeks and the owner just dropped the price $1,000 to $800. The OTA looks to be in great shape with a curved spider and fully flocked. However, the mount has seen better day. Does anyone know what kind of mount that is?

The mount looks like an ATM job or a heavily modified commercial mount (I'm thinking its more of an ATM job). The rotating rings though look like they are from a Cave.

The mount looks to me like it needs to be headed for the junk yard!

I don't think you appreciate "making what you need out of what you have" engineering.

Not to me!  I think it just needs some restoration and clean-up.  I bet if restored and some peripherals cleaned up, people would find it to be really cool.  If that mount were available separately for a reasonable price, I'd be very interested in restoring it.  The OTA doesn't interest me, and as it appears largely commercial, I'd then be on the lookout for an interesting ATM OTA to plop on it.

I bet Tom K. could turn this into a real beauty.

I would stay away from it, far away! Mirror 1/16 wave over 95%, so what does that mean? TDE that drops it to 1/4 wave or worse?. OTA to me looks homemade, and poorly done at that as well as mount. Did not see picture of it set up, that usually means things don't work, seller not original owner  or has not been used in a long time. I would say buyer beware...

If TDE ruins an otherwise outstanding mirror figure just mask off the TDE.So maybe you end up with a near perfect 11 inch mirror.

OMG. I said I was not going to post in this thread anymore, but the above posts are ridiculous. That scope is a great deal for $800 with everything that comes with it.

Hard to believe.   A B&L 4000 for $699.00.

I don't trust any optics claims anymore.

That's true, I don't. Despite the great results of the Professor on Gilligan's Island and his predecessor, Fred Flintstone.

This looks exactly like a Unitron. I have a very old one without any lettering on the lens cell and it looks just like that. The lack of any kind of marking on the focuser is very mysterious! What do you think?

Looks exactly like a Nihon Seiko, just not marked with importer trade name.  I just did the buy in now, looks in good shape and I've never owned a Unitron even after over 35 years in the hobby.

A brass Tasco spotting scope. Cute, but not a Japanese WW2 sniper's scope:

That IS a nice buy. I believe it was listed $100 higher when first listed.
