Over the years i've seen a few examples of individuals going the extra mile and personalizing their telescopes by using a film/decal wrap on their OTA's. I've seen hand built dobs where people have used model airplane Monokote and it looks wonderful. Thinking about this option for my C8 OTA i'm kinda at a loss. There does not seem to be anyone out there making wraps as a company and I think there might be a market for this? Maybe i'm goofy, but who wouldn't want a wrap using a Tirion chart wrap for their C8 or Dob? (these are the charts that are displayed on the Explore Sci eyepiece boxes). I know I might get a slap for saying this, but what about a wrap with a star chart with a black/purple background kinda like whats on the Questar standard?

I've seen handmade decal wraps on scopes for sales that have used astrophotography images as well that looked nice.

Does anyone know anyone already making these wraps?

Jon

I certainly would be interested also. I've used wall clings made for kids, but they're not astro specific.

Monokote sounds like a good idea, I have some laying around from when I was in the hobby. I might give that a try.

A quick google search will get you a million places to buy decals. If you have the artwork, check out this one (and only) place that I looked at.

I have a metal OTA on my dob and I purchased a magnetic "bumper sticker" for my scope.  I have one for my astronomy club and one that says "Zambuto Powered".  Good luck!

Our St. Petersburg Astronomy Club Mirror Lab has some pretty creative people putting art work on  their dob tubes.  This link may give you some ideas:  http://telescopelab.com/

Hydro dip!  Just remove lens/mirror and any parts that can't contact water.  Really cool what you can do with that now.  Do a couple of Google Searches on hydro dipping.

On a side note - great laugh.  Skimming the Topics waaay to fast resulted in my mentally combining "Film/Decal Wraps" into Fecal Wraps for Telescopes lol.gif

Sorry of that's too over the top but I needed the laugh and that worked!  Been the third Monday I've had this week!

I'm testing a 53mm Jaegers objective, and got bored with the temporary cardboard tube...

Just origami paper scraps pasted onto the tube, and covered with clear contact plastic. If I don't get to finishing the scope soon, at least it will be functional for a while..

Go to etsy.com and search for "adhesive nebula mural".  Here are some pics of my finished 12" Dob.

Any sign shop with a large format digital vinyl printer can make you a custom telecope wrap.

That sounds interesting.  I am not sure I have the skills to try it myself.  Could I take an OTA to a car detailing shop maybe?  They would have experience doing work with metals that are subjected to wide ranges of temperatures.
