Alain, I have a few questions.  What gain do you use while imaging at f10? Also what software are you using to process and compile these stacks?

Hello,

Max gain with Firecapture is about 600 from what i can remember and the gain i choose is about 100 to 200, depending of the exposure time.

To overlay the colourmap picture and the monochrome picture, i must adjust perfectly the colourmap picture to the mono picture. I use QGIS to do that. Colourmap is georeferenced on the mono picture. Then, i use a very old software which is PaintShop Pro 9 to overlay the 2 layers. But i suppose newer software can do the same.

This is the main process, including 3D pictures and videos creation :

Very interesting smile.png

Thanks. It's quite a lot of work but the results are interesting.

Hello,

as the weather is very bad, i make some work on my pictures.

This time, a kind of spectrometry, trying to make metallic oxides maps of the Moon surface.

I first tried with titanium oxide (TiO2) because it seems there is a driect relation between blue colour and TiO2.

My work is based on my map of the colours of the Moon's soils :

gallery_228659_7680_317122.jpg

Extracting excess of blue in this picture, i can try to make the TiO2 abundance map of the soils. And it's works pretty well. Here is the result (superimposed on the Moon picture), compared with the map made by LRO satellite :

gallery_228659_7680_926679.jpg

I also tried to make iron oxide map. There is a way to get it using my RVB picture of the Moon.

The result, compared with 2 maps made by Clementine satellite and Kaguya Lunar Mission :

gallery_228659_7680_1265875.jpg

It is not perfect but it works quite well.

The summary with TiO2 and FeO maps :

gallery_228659_7680_196497.jpg

Well, i believe those maps are not very usual. It was quite pleasant to make them.

Have a nice day.

Alain

Well, it seems that being able to make TiO2 and FeO maps of the Moon's soils with a SCT telescope and a planetary camera does not makes sense to anyone.

Something more easy to understand (just need the eyes) :

2 days ago, the weather was not too bad. A lot of wind, very cold but few turbulence.

The setup : SCT 9.25" + IMX178 mono sensor camera with red or green filter.

Platon and Vallis Alpes :

Copernicus and Erathostene :

Tycho and Clavius :

A mosaic :

gallery_228659_7680_1282606.jpg

The same mosaic but this time, with the colours of the soils (depending of metallic oxides in the soils) :

An other coloured mosaic :

gallery_228659_7680_784262.jpg

Well, that's all.

I hope those pictures will be much easier to understand than previous maps.

Some new reprocessed pictures with heavy colour enhancement. Colour enhancement is used to show the variety of soils. Those pictures are far away from standard pictures.

Always the same setup : C9.25 and IMX178 mono camera for details + IMX178 colour camera for colour map.

Still have to wait for good weather for new pictures.

Awesome.  I stumbled into a similar result via a different workflow, I used a DSLR for color and a mono for luminance.

near the bottom of the page is my attempt.  Makes me feel my results are 'real' (although at much lower resolution).

Hello,

my last work, always about the Moon.

The setup is still the same : C9.25 F10 and IMX178 mono camera.

Here we go :

gallery_228659_7680_1518867.jpg

gallery_228659_7680_839704.jpg

gallery_228659_7680_1438579.jpg

Now, some coloured pictures. I used the map of the colours of the Moon's soils i made in 2017.

gallery_228659_7680_1139685.jpg

gallery_228659_7680_136223.jpg

Now, a coloured Moon i made a few days ago. I used IMX178 colour sensor camera to make this picture.

gallery_228659_7680_1766622.jpg

A comparison between the result i get with the IMX178 colour camera and the IMX178 mono camera + RGB filters. Not exactly the same results :

gallery_228659_7680_472144.jpg

Now, a big mosaic of the Moon :

A hope you have enjoy those pictures.

Clear sky
