We’ve made some changes!


Please take a few minutes and read our new Terms of Service. We’ve made some changes in response to member feedback specifically to enhance our members’ experience here on Cloudy Nights. We’ve simplified the language and made a couple of changes.

Perhaps the biggest change is in how Vendors are treated. By far the majority of our Vendor members play by our very restrictive rules. But these restrictive rules were put in place to restrain those vendors who sought to take advantage of our membership. The unhappy consequence of this is that our members have been denied access to a valuable resource. Not only do our Vendor members know their products, most of them are very experienced amateur astronomers that want to share their experience, expertise, and passion for our hobby. So, we’ve decided to loosen our restrictions on what and where Vendors can post.

The other major change is in how we will treat images. We’ve relaxed what images we allow to be posted, although we have not changed the posting size limits. That being said, we have no intention of allowing Cloudy Nights to become a repository of gifs, memes and cat videos. Moderators are given wide discretion to remove, without warning, images that are distracting, annoying, off topic, or too cute.

If you have questions or comments regarding the new Terms of Service, we’ve started a Topic in the Feedback Forum specifically for that, or you can always send a PM to any administrator or moderator with your questions and comments. We hope our new rules will make participation in our forums easier, and make the lines for what is allowed (and what isn’t) a little sharper.
