Great thread and great work on a wonderful telescope. Those lucky kids!
I will certainly second that! You and your team are to be highly commended for this effort, Mike! Hope you have some "first light" photos at the end of this!!!

It's amazing to hear that a school ... especially a high school ... would budget the money to restore a telescope. It must be well-heeled school district!
It looks like a great restoration job ... congrats!
This is actually one of two twin 6" Goto refractors, the other is at Foran H/S in Ct. , I also worked on that scopes dome that would no longer open. Maybe I'll show some photos after this.

OMG! Mike, you need to discuss some background, i.e., your connection with these schools in CT, when you get a chance. Thanks!

The back end of the finished scope. Pretty busy back there, and it's missing the plate camera!
Love to see the working end of a large refractor...all dressed up!!!!!

No that photo was taken the day we finished and we had poor winter weather. My buddy Bob Carruthers was able to go back and first light he said was amazing! Of course in the middle of Bridgeport there is quite the light dome but all the bright objects were looked at. Bob said the optics were exceptional. I lived a walking distance from it's sister scope at Foran H/S in Milford Ct. and observed through that one many times
