Can somebody tell me what the overall length of the 80mm Adventure is? It is not stated on the Meade website.

And has anybody had experience with the 60mm version?

Overall length is 15 1/4" with dust caps on both ends.  Add 3/8 " for the small inner cap on objective.

I got the AS60 on sale at Walmart for $60 shipped w/ tax.

I threw out the tripod - junk. I got the package for the RDF and case. The eyepieces are junk -  already had a bunch of others, though.

The Scope is fine.

Here's a pic of the moon I got with it:

The AS60 is on sale right now at Walmart.com - cheaper than when I got it $48 plus tax, free shipping...

The EP's are junk, they don't work in refractors, I tried them on my Orion Skyscanner 100 and they worked fine...

Wow, what a deal! I almost feel compelled to buy it even to loan out or just give it away later. Can't wait for my 80mm Adventure Scope to arrive this week. I should probably just stick with that, huh? grin.gif

I sthe focuser plastic on the AS60?  I think the appeal of the 80mm is the actual quality of the scope.

Thanks,

Jaimo!

At that price, definitely...

Not bad, though for that price...

Hi everyone,

I own a meade 80/400 with 2"focuser and I'm looking for a 4-5-6mm eyepiece for high magnification. What did you purchse?

Apparently the celestron x cel 5mm is the worst of the x cel serie. The Meade 5.5mm 5000 serie is nice but really expensive (where I lve).

What do you think of the ES 82 4.7mm?

Do you have any advice? Thank you.

I have the ES 52 4.5, which works well with my Meade 80/400.  It's about as high power as I like to go with that scope (I switch to another scope if I want more).  It's a lot cheaper than the 82 4.7, has good eye relief, and gives me a sharp view thru that scope at roughly 90x.  (My scope now has a GSO 2 speed crayford focuser, which helps with higher powers.)  Of course it has a much smaller field of view than the 82 4.7.  Because of that, I'm more comfortable using that eyepiece/scope combination on a tracking mount.

John

Ok, thank for the advice. ES 52° in France costs the same as ES 82° on Aliexpress. But I was afraid 4.7mm was too much. Did you try to barlow it?

Btw, one of those 2 ES will be my next purchase :)

No, never thought to try to barlow that eyepiece since it already pushes the magnification.  I have barlowed lower powered eyepieces to get higher magnification than the 4.5, but can't really go much higher and see a steady sharp image.

You may want to search "Aliexpress" in these forums, the Eyepiece forum in particular, to get more information about that website.  It is made up of many dealers that can vary in reliability.  I can recommend the Outdoor Movement Store in Aliexpress, since I made two separate purchases from them last fall and both eyepieces (ES 82 6.7 & ES 82 11) arrived safely, though it took a few weeks both times.  I see right now they have a good price for the 4.7.  If I didn't already have the 4.5, I might order it myself.  The ES82 eyepieces are normally much higher value than the ES52s.  Right now, in the US, I can get an ES 52 eyepiece for $67.99, which is still a lot cheaper than any ES 82 in Aliexpress, that I can see.  Good luck in your purchase!

John

Thank you for your advices. I changed my mind and I think I will order 3 ES 82° eyepieces:18, 6.7 and 4.7mm. I've got other eyepieces to fill the gap between 18mm and 6.7mm. I will give you my reviews in few weeks.
