The new Denkmeier standards with th 1 1/4" OCS arrive on Monday. I talked to Hands on Optics and Gary is returning from the Eastern shore with a bit of Denkmeier kit from Russ. Since HOO is only about 60 miles north of here, I was going to head up Tues and check out the 2" OCS. Before I plunk down the 300 bones, I wanted to make sure that it is worth it for my 10" f/4.7 XT10. I know everyone has said "oh yeah" to this, but I just need that little extra push to get me going.

Clear skies,

Tom :p

Oh yeah. Extra push. In an f4.7 (but I still say in any scope with a 2" focuser), get the 2" for sure, unless maybe you intend to use the dob only at higher magnifications of course. Then it doesn't really matter.

You have asked this in other forums and have stated that you are going with the 2" OCS over three or four days ago, so what gives. If you would like to see this a one product group, than just state it.

Don,

I hadn't made up my mind yet (and still haven't), so I was asking people here who might have both, just to make sure. I don't remember posting anywhere that I had decided to go with the 2" OCS, but that I was looking for input. Too many binoviewer places to keep track of, so maybe I did.

I have no intention of making this a one product group. Not sure what gave that impression. I don't even own a binoviewer yet, just have one on the way. I'm just your average Joe looking for input, and trying to figure out the best way to spend $800.

Clear skies,

Tom

TomH.

After being into astronomy for 30+ years, I sometime's forget how excited the newbie gets, and all the questions that are asked. I'll take my post back.

Does my newbie excitement show that much? I am very excited about trying binoviewers for the first time. I bought them without trying them first, but I am a sick man. I just hope the dna structure of gear acquisition syndrome (GAS) is discovered soon so I can get back to leading a "normal" life.

Clear skies,

Tom

TomH.,

I think the gear acquistion syndrome never ends.

I see you are a Navy Test Pilot, my cousin was a Commander in the Navy for 30yrs as a fighter pilot. So take care up there. If your anything like my cousin, you Navy pilots are one crazy group of people who always what more speed. He was on the Carrier Randolph which played an improtent part in Astronomy history. It was the primary recovery ship for two well know Astronaut. Virgil Grissom, and John Glenn.
