Tatahouine.  Sorry, but I don't have a pic handy to post right now.  Of the handful of meteorites that I own, this is without a doubt my favorite one, as I've been a Star Wars fan since 1977. Jedi.gif

That's a really nice looking specimen, Peter. :waytogo:  I forgot to mention, one thing I really like about this meteorite is its interesting greenish coloration.

Peter, with this thread I wondered what your favorite meteorite is.  Are you waiting for someone to ask you smile.gif?  Please share.

I find myself often saying, Wow, this is one of my favorite meteorites.  I have never said this is my favorite because there are so many.  I am not sure I could pick just one, not easily that is for sure.  I thought you wouldn't mind if I shared some of my favorites.

These are all based on what I own.

I don't know how I forgot about Tirhert (Foum el Hisn)

This may be my favorite smile.gif but pictures don't do it justice.  The shiny black crust and sparkling interior are amazing.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing some great meteorites!

The reason I didn't post my favorite meteorite is simple. I am lazy. I don't know what meteorite is my favorite. Is it a piece of Esquel? Perhaps the most beautiful meteorite that I have seen. Is it Portales Valley? A striking meteorite like no other. Is it a Murchison? A meteorite rich in organic compounds that smells like paint thinner. Is it Canyon Diablo? A meteorite that made the most wonderful crater on Earth. Is it Peekskill? A meteorite whose entry was recorded on over a dozen videos before its journey ended under Michelle Knapp's car. I could go on and on. No my favorite meteorite is this sample of Gibeon that I fashioned into wedding rings for my wife & myself.

Thanks,

Peter

Yes it is tough to come up with just one or a few even.  Esquel, I only own a small piece but I also like Glorieta Mountain.  I have one piece but it has no crystals.  Yes, Portales Valley.  I have a slice but it broke.  Still very nice with the veins of silver.  I only have a small piece of Murchison.  I think I did try to smell it when I 1st got it.  I live near Canyon Diablo and have seen Meteor Crater several times.  I have several pieces and they are great to hold.  Ha, I almost posted my picture of Peekskill.  It, too, is beautiful with the small specks of silver on orange.  Nice Gibeon ring you have and very special.  Gujba is also pretty neat but my piece is small.

Hi,

That is a great sample of Peekskill. You have to love that thick fusion crust.

Thanks,

Peter

I know.  Amazing how thick it is and that is one reason I liked this slice.  To get some thick crust.  The beauty of the slice was a surprise though when I 1st saw it.  Lots of metal glitter.

Thanks Scott.  I bought one cheap (inexpensive) meteorite from someone on AM and I could not believe how beautiful it was.  I became addicted and although my buying has slowed down substantially, I still can not get enough and have 100's of beauties.

Now a wedding ring is the best possible use for a meteorite that I can think of. Great idea, Peter!

Hi Scott,

Thanks. That is how I first became interested in meteorites. I wanted cool stuff to make jewelry out of.

Thanks,

Peter

Allende meteorite- it contains Ca inclusions that were condensed from the proto-Solar System cloud
before the Earth formed, in a sense it represents the time before- perhaps the about the oldest
material one can hold and possess. It is perhaps the best studied meteorite of all, and because of
what it tells us of grand origins it is certainly my fav. This a large slice of 146 gm. that is large enough
to have a broad diversity of inclusion types embedded in its matrix including the white Ca inclusions.

Wow that is a huge slice of Allende.  Congrats.  I have said of my Allende that it is so ugly it is beautiful.  It has a piece in it that looks like gold.

I have a nice slice but much smaller than yours.  I saw a really large one like yours at ASU.  I have a few pieces.  Here is my largest slice.

Great Allende pieces.  Here's my slice... smaller than both of yours but I like it a lot.

There are a few more meteorites I'd like to post to this great thread when I get a chance!
