Can anyone measure out the size of the box - and the shipping weight?  I need to get this on the plane to South Africa...if I can.  Ideally, would like to do what I did with my AT111EDT - carry the optics in a carry-on, and check the focuser etc.  It may not be possible to disassemble this...need the box size to see!!!

If all goes well the cases will be with the 115 shipment which should be here in November.  Fingers crossed as the 152s were 3 months late. However, better late than never.

Thanks Michael, that's good news. I'll be crossing my fingers also.  The apartment complex I live in doesn't have a front or backyard so the idea of just grabbing a scope for a quick half hour or so of viewing in the driveway is only a dream for me. No matter which of my scopes I pick for a night's viewing it requires packing everything into the car and heading out with a friend or two away from the city lights.

So a case for the AT152 will help a lot in moving stuff back and forth. I know it will have handles but do you have any idea if it will have a couple of wheels at one end for tilting and rolling ? Thanks.

I just got some detailed specs on this scope from Astronomics today. Mostly physical dimensions, sliding dew shield length before and after warrantee information, support information.

The scope looks excellent inside and out. I'm ordering within a week or so. I was struggling with this scope, not knowing details on it, and the plethora of information on the APM-152ED and new Skywatcher also. Coming from a TOA-130 background. I wanted something larger,  just as a back yard visual scope to ride on my G11. I've had many scopes but never a 6" triplet. I know how triplets compare to doublets especially when the seeing is excellent and you can really throttle up the magnification. I have many scope types, but there is just something very special about refractors.

There are so many amazing choices now. Sooooo many excellent choices now! There is no bad scope. Everything new, ED or Triplet is excellent. The new crop of large focusers, just adds to the feeling of owning something very very special also.

Forums tend to bring out the jibber jabber on whats great and not as great, but at night, when the skies are dark and you are standing behind any of these new beautiful masterpieces, pointing up at the night skies, "Everything" is excellent."

How lucky we all are to be living at a time where we have so many choices and everything out there is just Excellent.

Lucky you, lucky me, lucky us!!

Ralph,

I have the prototype AT152EDT. It’s a great scope at a sweet price point. Mine rides on a Mach1 and under the stars has never disappointed. The views are exceptional, my eyes are what I’ve used to judge visually rather than by a piece of paper. Have the Flattner but haven’t had time or conditions since it arrived to test it.

Dont think you’ll be disappointed and it should be a good match on your G11.

Cheers

Phil

On APMs website they say the combination of FPL51 and Lanthanum gives similar performance to a FPL53 scope. Kudos to Xi! David

I want to get a AT 152 horribly bad but I would have to sell my AT 130 and AVX my Nexstar 8SE and a few other odds and ends to make it work as I would be getting a $3999 scope and a CGEM to replace the AVX as the 152 would be just too much for AVX to handle. I might also have to sell my CPC 1100 as well but I actually would want that as a companion to the 152.  I just wish I knew a rich person that wants scopes right now... Been watching Phil's review on the prototype and just curious how much if anything is changed from the Prototype to the production models.

Yes I saw and I am probably going to grab it and a CGEM II as my AVX would not hold up with the 152 Will end up selling some other equipment to cover the costs though.

At f/9 that would make a gorgeous observatory scope.   You might have changed my future scope plans with this thread.  I am definitely looking forward to hearing more about this scope.  Yep - I'm drooling!  drool5.gif

You need a 6” apo to keep your SRF title.

Isn't it sold already? I thought it would go fast at that price.

It still shows on the web site but I bought it yesterday and it is in route to me here in Florida. (shows getting here on Wednesday) I also got a CGEM II mount for it as the AVX I have for my AT 130 probably is not quite enough mount to handle the 152. The Tracking and shipping information is not available on the CGEM yet.

Sometime during the week I’ll put all three side by side.

Based on this entire thread I went ahead and bought an AT 152 EDT Going to be nice and see how things turn out but I am under the impression that my glass Jaw will shatter when it hits the deck....

I ended up buying the APM-152ED as my 6" visual scope. Their $1500 price drop was too much to ignore, plus I've not been too happy with the newly updated website displaying this expensive telescope like its an after though, only showing a crude drawing on the scope with no real details given. I couldn't throw $4k into this scope with that type of lack of interest and details on what seems to be their flagship scope they are offering.

I think the scope is still too new in its production for me to take a chance on this, at this time.

I'm sure the scope itself is amazing, but I'm completely happy with my new 152ED and the support I am already getting from APM on questions I've already asked about it.

$1500 is a significant drop. APM is a good scope doublet triplet whatever flavor.  I based purchasing the AT 152EDT on a number of factors. 1 the Demo unit was just a box opened on display at a Star party. Most companies would have just sealed up the box and sold it as new. That impressed me a great deal and I sent a Thank you email to Mike already for that. 2. I have owned the AT 115EDT and I have a 130EDT at the house now. Everything Astro Tech I have owned has punched well above it's weight in performance and the cost is very good for that quality of scope. 3. This thread of Phil Cowell's on the Prototype AT 152EDT it impressed him so much he purchased the Prototype  outright. Now that tells a great deal when you look at the list of his equipment. If he bought it then the quality is there. I do not know if there are any differences between the Prototype and the production model but I have to believe that those differences if any are minute. So now you know my thoughts on the AT EDT line and I won't hesitate to recommend these scopes to any and all that ask me.

Hey Chas

I will certainly make sure I invite you to the first star party that I attend with this scope (tentatively the 9th or 10th of November.)  I'll give you details as it gets closer. Tampa after all is only an hour and 1/2 away from me so getting the scope check time we can make sure you get that.
