Lets see how this new scope does. It is not much more than the DX SW150ED.
What are you smokin Chas? The DX will be ~$2500, the AT152EDT is $4000.

That is not a big diff really. Now a TOA150 would be a big diff.

Yes I looked at the TOA I was stretched to get the AT 152 and if I do not cull some scopes soon (Actually sold the 8SE already) I will be making payments bigger than I want for a while But the 605 discount on the scope that was shown at a star party made the choice much easier.

The scope will fall between .90 and .92 Strehl. We asked about going higher, but the added expense would take the scope to a price point that I wasn’t willing to approach.
I am going to be quite satisfied whatever that number end sup being. Bottom line the EDT scopes punch well above their weight in performance and in price....

https://www.cloudyni...0168-at-scopes/ The AT 152 unboxing and compare album. The 152 makes the 130 look like a popgun next to a bazooka.

dagadet,
Your new AT152 looks beautiful and BIG. Hopefully you'll post more when you get it mounted on your new incoming CGEM II.

Yes indeed I am looking forward to that.

OK CGEM II is coming tomorrow. I have been given a suggestion by another user who had an internal Brass counterweight made for inside her refractor in this case a C6R The Brass counter weight fitted into the back end of the scope and the Focuser functioned through the brass counter weight. This was done to prevent tripod strikes with a long triplet Refractor on a non pier equipped GEM (no piers available for CGEM II) What I would like to know is can this be done for the AT EDT line especially the 130 and 152. Viewing through the scope would be easier and the eyepiece would sit highter off the ground in most cases. I think I might submit this idea to Astronomics as I think it would be a good optional accessory for them and I certainly would pay for one.

Not happy with FedEx right now two part shipment scheduled for delivery today yet one half was left on the floor for Delivery tomorrow. Lodged a complaint on FedEx web site already.

Bummer. Let's see...hmmmm....which part will you receive first? If it's the actual mount, you can at least drool over it while your new AT152 sits looking pretty.

I am getting the Mount first it is the smaller of the two boxes. The tripod legs and the counter weights were left on the floor in Davenport. Next question does the tripod of my AVX have the same top base as the CGEM II or are they different. If the AVX Tripod matches the CGEM II mount I might get to assemble today

Jack it up to 600x and see what it does.

600X on a 152 refractor hmm that is going to be hard to do I have a 2X Barlow and a 5mm Astro Tech Paradigm so a 2.5 mm eyepiece is the best I can do on this scope. 1216 F/L so it is time to do some calculations. I would love to have you around when I do try that..... A 5mm Paradigm with a 2.5X Barlow would give 608X on the 152. That is a lot of multiplication for most any scope. Will ask if anyone has tried that with a refractor recently. Florida weather? I doubt that it is possible most nights.

I have done 600x with a 5" ETX and over 450x with a TMB 105/650. All my Taks could do 100x per inch . This is with a bright star or the moon only. Planets are too dim at such powers but maybe Venus when it is close.

Excellent maybe we can try this with the AT 152 in the near future........Can't hurt to try anyway.

Try the double double at 300x and work up. Seeing should be pretty good as it is warm.

Shipped out the AT 130EDT this morning now I have the AVX left and I have a New CGEM II to set up today. Once that is done I will set the 152 on the mount and Balance it. Probably won't get first light till this weekend as I am working nights till Friday.

Looks like a big gun.

Does that mean if an example slips through at .93 it will be rejected?
Not a chance, that one was used as the DEMO at a star party and was placed up on Astronomics. i was fortunate enough to get that one the rest are probably .93.5

That looks like a very nice set up, hopefully you can get it out right away

I was very pleased with the Balance point I won't need to use the Ankle weights much if at all as the Mount is taller than my AVX As for right away? http://clearoutside....st/27.60/-81.51 I would say no to that.

Congrats! That's a great looking combo. Hopefully you can get it out soon.
