I like them very much...although they are a bit hard to get the mouse pointer on...they are better this way for me..

Sharpcap keeps getting better for us.

These are really nice pics Bob.  I continually am amazed at what this camera can do.  So this is a color camera  sounds like you are running it in Mono gain  B&W??  Does this usually enhance the picture quality?

And a Bin1 to Bin2 compare ..same equipment..1 day  apart...left bin 1  right bin 2

The Bin1 is "Crispyer"...more detail imho.

A Bin 1 vrs Bin2 test compare...downloaded from this FB,,for compare. BTW this was done on 2 diferent nights..evolution mount with starsense...moved each night...and auto aligned each day...shows how good starsense alignments are....electronic plate solving in star sense works.

This was the first time I used a HA filter....so I used mono8 in sharpcap,,,Most of the time color cameras don't do very well in mono and HA...this is not as good as a mono

camera,,,,,,but its not bad at all...(imho)...I'm very pleased at what this camera can do and sharpcap software is getting very good at it.

But my Tampa skys are not very good most of the time so I thought I would try out HA..Im glad I did..

Again my testing has been in alt/az mount and a 80mm f4.8 scope... Proving it can be done...with simple eazy/peazy equipment.

Soon Ill be testing with my 10"F4 and eq mount with guiding  trying for better  results.....in color.

thanks

Bob

Bob,

These are great H-alpha results for a colour camera, but I am struck by how noticeable the amp glow is. Are you not using any dark subtraction to get rid of it?

NO darks or Flats.... I could remove it...but I left it in...on purpose.. I'm running this camera at almost max gains..(to do it in Alt/AZ)

And yes sharpcap could remove it...But for live viewing I don't.. Or I might crop it out.

Again... superb captures. Although I am not really bothered by the amp glow, if you use gain closer to 150-200 I find amp glow mostly disappears but you still get the benefit of ~1.5e of read noise (and 13 stops of of DR - although that does not matter with such short exposures in H-Alpha).

Hi Bob

If you could try an apples to apples example using the 294pro vs. your 1600 color.   If you used same settings/filter/scope/exposure I think it could be very useful for people to see just how much more sensitive the 294 is.

I sure hope it is  more sensitive than the 1600, but I'm still waiting for any head-to-head comparison of captures taken  with a 294 versus something like a 224 or "older tech" CCDs.

Al that's a good idea,,,I will try and test the 1600 with the same setup... Hard to get some sky time, but I will do that HA test with the 1600 soon.

I'm not sure if I have a mono8 setting with 1600,but Ill find out..and keep it all the same..max gain,bin1 ect. Might be interesting to do.

I think trying to compare this 294 and other cameras...it should be similar chip sizes....4/3" chip cameras...

people moving to a 4/3" from 1/2" chip must understand that the scope optics have to work on bigger chips....with focal reducers that are flat..

That is hard to do on many scopes...most only can do about 11mm dia chips flat...

So moving from a smaller chip to a bigger one may be more than just a new camera....for live imaging with out flats and darks..the optics have to handle it also.
