Last nights NGC40..Bow Tie Nebula-ASI294-Sharpcap/win 10 photos (only) -42 seconds, stack 11x gain 382,EXP127@F5.2 Tampa,full and crop.
Scope and camera is becoming a nice combo. No guiding....G11

Nice image Bob! I do not mean to criticize but I am puzzled by the exposure times used. I have seen bright objects like NGC 40 captured using ccd sensors with much less exposure of about 20 to 30 seconds with no gain control producing excellent results. I noticed that your image is using a high gain of 382 and 42 sec sub-images and was wondering if you could try less exposure time? This might perhaps bring out some of the star colors.

Steve you are right...could of done less time/gain...but I was on a role with those settings...lol....

With my Tampa skies I'm lucky not to fog out at 42 seconds.... That night was a little better than my norm
I could see at least 5 stars with my eyes... You make a very good point..next time I will go for
star color..(soon)...now that the Gulf is cooling down some,,I don't have as much Sky glow...(I hope)
This was my first NGC40 from Tampa..
tnx

Thank you, Bob, and again a nice image of NGC 40. You have tough conditions for sure.

Fantastic captures. Really great results. The star colors in NGC7789 very nice.

Can you provide some additional information. Did you use any filters? Which live stacking SW did you use? TEC cooling set point?

Thx

Sure

I used a Ids 2" lp2 filter,, All software and stacking was Sharpcap 3.1 beta,,and touch up in windows photos...
no sharpcap for now.

Tec was -14 converted from 28mb png to a 2.5 mb jpg, then resized for CN to 456kb for display.

Done from Tampa last night on NSN with good but not great skies with 20% cloud cover..50deg temp outside.
I'm still having a problem keeping color balance right...the auto feature dosnt seam to do any thing for me..Also using raw 16..This was in the east(my better area) at about 40deg up.
Using an explorer 3" reducer and FDC 100 glass in the es127,with T conectors and adapters from 3" to the new 2.5" exp sci 127mmfocuser.

I'm trying to use Sharpcap for all my 294 images as I learn more about the software.
Mount is a G11G2...non guided but polar aligned in sharpcap and aligned and stacked live stacking.

IC434 HH was in my east 40deg
NGC 7789 was in my NW 65deg

Bob

Thanks for the information.

I usually adjust color balance manually. SharpCap auto color balance does not work for me either.

I discuss this in the SharpCap Quick Start guide as well. Basically if you are in a very light polluted area, the color balance changes depending on where you are pointing as well. Gain and exposure time will also impact color balance due to dark current.

Maybe worth a discussion with Robin to get his thoughts on the auto color balance function.

If you upload them to "My Gallery", you don't have to reduce them to under 500kb. It will take a file up to 10mb in size. Then just get the URL from the "Options->Share Links".  Use the BBCode to insert into the forum post.

That's a stunning M42 -- perfectly framed and showing its inner light as I've never seen it before. I don't often long for a wider FOV in my own kit but in this case I'll make an exception!
