I recently purchased a Meade LX200 GPS 10” and I need a good case for storage and transportation. I was thinking about using a Dewalt 63 gallon mobile tool chest if the internal dimensions are right. The mobile tool chest is on sale at Home Depot for around $80. How thick of foam should I use for the telescope protection? Are the mobile tool chests a good alternative to the more expensive custom built cases (e.g. JMI cases)? I heard you are really paying for someone to cut the foam.

Yes, the DeWalt Tough Chest 38 in. 63 gal. Mobile Tool Box ( https://www.homedepo...63 gallon chest ) would work well; it weighs 34 lbs. empty.  You could get your own Pluck Foam ( https://www.ebay.com...k foam&_sacat=0  ) to line it.  If you wanted to save some money for the foam on the bottom, go to your local Fabric Store and get some economical 2" foam sheets used for pillows and seat cushions.  Home Depot sells that too:  https://www.homedepo...0cushion?NCNI-5
