I also emailed, have not heard back on the 10" Meade. Probably long gone....

But the ad is still up.  I hate it when people do that. No response and leave the ad going.

The guy responded a while ago with a phone number and I called him.  He stated that someone is coming by tonight at 7PM to buy the scope.  He said the guys name is not Chas.   I tried Chas to get you a scope cheap.  Maybe next time.

I'm flying out to San Diego next week and thought maybe I could find someway to get the Starliner Out Standing In Its Field, then find a way to freight it back to North Carolina, but then realized San Luis Obispo is 6.5 hours away. No way I'll have the time, unfortunately :(

The more I've looked at it the more I think its a 14.25" Starliner Newt-Cass, but I don't have any definitive proof.

Bummer.  Maybe take the train?  Probably the same amount of time, but a more pleasant and productive ride.

I could do this in a couple or 3 weeks, or impose on an old friend who lives up there (and risk losing said friend! lol.gif ), and ask him if he'd pick it up for me.  But probably the best thing would be to wait until after Christmas and contact the seller then.  That way there's a reasonable chance someone else might buy it first and save me the trouble!  'Cause I don't have the room or the time to work on one.

I can't see a perforation in the primary, though the pics aren't very good, so I was wondering if it was a kludge from different sources.  Be cool if it's a 14.25" instead of a 12.5".  The ad says "15 inch", which made me think that's the tube diameter, making the mirror likely a 12.5.  It'd behoove whoever buys the thing to find out if there's a Cass secondary with it, because making one would probably not be a lot of fun, if you're not into that sort of thing.

I sent a message.  That's definitely a Star-liner mount.  Mirror cell doesn't look star-liner, though.  The ribs had me thinking it might be Tinsley, but they're very different.  Rotating rings look similar to Cave, but not the same (inner rings appear same width as outers - caves were wider to allow access to the screws attaching them to the tube.  Primary doesn't look perforated, as I said earlier, but I asked the seller if there were other parts not shown (hoping that if it is a convertible Newt-cass, that the cass secondary is around somewhere).

older Edmund 4" reflector.  I already have one. This one might be in nice shape.

Vixen A80Mf refractor. I have enough refractors.

$100 for the Ed would be ok if it's nice, easy good optics.

Vixen is a good deal all around, won't last

Lafayette (Towa) 60x800 OTA + Wood Case --> https://www.shopgood...m/Item/46482110

I don't see a mount, but it appears to have everything else, including the documents.  This is one of the Asahi-looking versions of the Towa.  The two that I owned & tested had very good optics (but no lens pix in this ad).

Good deal on a Brandon 94 on N-S (Unitron 142) clock-driven GEM and tripod with wooden spreader tray. Robin’s-egg blue tube could use a re-paint.

Sandcast/round base Celestron C5 for sale in Chapel Hill, NC (not too far from me). $300 https://raleigh.crai...6414222849.html

Chas, if you really want it let me know, maybe we can work something out with shipping. I'm figuring you'd prefer one you can check the optics on first.

The price shows both $300 and $400.  At $300 it's a killer deal and at $400 it's a good deal since it includes the period-correct wedge.

Very tempting for me.  I've wanted one for a long time, but, I'm probably going to part with either my C8 or C5 soon (tough call for a variety of reasons).

A 6" on an 10" mount! That was probably for the 10" Model C.

in that condition, probably half the asking price would be the most I'd be willing to spend.  Looks like a 6" Sirius.

I'm just posting links like I always do. I put the offer out there for Chas since he's mentioned the C5 so often lately.

I'm sure its gone by now.  I have had all the other C5's but the pre 1976 C5.
