Today, I noticed a story on CNN.com about a woman who has suffered eye damage from the partial eclipse. In the article, it shows an adaptive-optic image of her retina where the damage has occurred.

I saw that, too. Hers is a sad sequence of events, including her lack of knowledge of the potential harm, her lack of investigating the safety of what she was using, her unjustified trust of a total stranger who gave her the eclipse glasses she wore, and the unscrupulousness of the entity that made substandard viewing glasses.
