I had a friend who worked for Parks Optical until the end and he helped me purchase
items for a large reflector that I'm building, including Superior Equatorial Mount and
16" fiberglass telescope tube. That was about 13 years ago. Bought everything I
needed because I could tell Parks was struggling. I knew things were going south
when he informed me that they were no longer making the custom tubes (which was
the signature Parks product from the early 1950s) so I got one long enough from their
inventory so I could use it with my design. My friend actually went to their warehouse
and picked it out for me. Apparently there was a father and son company
in Arizona who used a mandrel to make the tubes. California wouldn't permit use
of the chemicals so they had them made in Arizona. And it was a bear getting that
large tube shipped. I had to purchase large boxes from ULINE, had them sent
to Parks, where my insider friend boxed the tube up and had it shipped to me.
The company was disfunctional in the end. Most unfortunate.
