:rainbow:I was wondering if anyone could tell me where you install filters in the light path when using a Denkmeier? Also what size would you use?

Hi Lawrance, Welcome aboard. Nice to have another Canadian chipping in. I guess it depends on the scope you have. On my LX200 I place 2" filters on the scope side of the 2" diagonal, but you can attach them directly to the binoviewer nose piece if you like, either size depending on the nose piece size. All Denkmeier accessories are threaded for filters.

Thanks. I have an 8"LX200GPS and am trying to figure out what to do about a diagonal and filters when I add the binoviewer. Also struggling with eyepiece decisions as well but that is being beaten to death in other threads.

As a Canadian, where do you get your astro gear? I have been dealing with some retailers in Toronto with generally good service.

Also where did you get your dome?

Hi Lawrence,
I have a Denkmeier and use it mostly on my 12"lx200.I have one of those filter slides from Lumicon and it actually still works by slipping it into the diagonal and then the 1.25"nosepiece goes into the slide.Once I got used to it it worked great for me.Also of course you can just screw then into the bino nosepiece. If you are using a 1.25"diagonal maybe filters will screw into the scope end of it as well.I have a dome too but your question was directed to John Gilles so you must mean his "Observalavatory" .One thing I should add,I don't use the 8"lx200 and can't for sure tell you it will have enough focus travel for that filter slide.

Well, here's another Canuck for you. However, I'm feeling pretty equipment-poor... :bawling:

I'm waiting on a D2 that Jim Kendrick should be bringing back from NEAF, to say nothing of the 12" LX200 to mount it on! Didn't know Meade was starting to make them out of pure unobtainium!

My 25 year old 6" newt has seen better days!

Hi Dave,

Look...I live over in New Dundee so if you're a nice guy, I might let you come and and maybe even touch my Denkmeier and my 12" LX200GPS. Wait a minute that sounds a little too friendly.....you know what I mean!

Hi Lawrence, I have gotten my main gear at Khan's, but my UO Ortho's I got direct from UO.

I like the Observalavatory. How do you secure it at night?
And you use pairs of UO's for the bino? Any trouble with customs or shipping? Have you tried the 9mm UO's? I was thinking of getting a pair for Planetary use in my 8" f10.

Hi Lawrence, The Observalavatory is deadbolted to the pier. Has stood the test of 2 winters so far. I use 25, 18, 12.5mm U0 Ortho's and have just received the 9's. There's never any trouble with the border, just a lot of extra expense. Very annoying. UO is really good to deal with though.

"There's never any trouble with the border" sayeth John.

That's 'cuz his brother gets them for him!

Have your US shippments come by Air Mail. DO NOT USE UPS!
The Post Office has a flat $5 document preparation fee for orders under $1000 and at worst, you MIGHT get dinged the PST and GST. If you are lucky the order will slide through the system with no extra charges. Bonus...our Loonie is strong right now.

John, I got 4 guys in my office right now, and we all cringed <simultaneously> when we saw your little animated GIF.

Thanks - I'll be thinking about that one for a while....
