I awoke this morning and it was still dark. I brought my 4 inch refractor outside and could start observing before the sky became too bright.
The planets ar not in a favorable position here in Germany. Both are close together and around 18 deg above the horizon. I used a atmospheric dispersion corrector, which helped only somewhat.
For Jupiter I used 130x and for Mars 200x. The details at Mars came out only with filters. The polarc cap could be seen with yellow and blue (better with blue), the dark ring at the polar cap needed a yellow filter.
Jupiter stood between 6 mag stars - a beautiful sight!
