Sullivan, MO is a short distance from our farm.

Gentlemen - given its tapered RA axis - is the above a Starfinder mount?

Yes.  The 826 had real tube rings which were unpainted aluminum.  This has straps.

I'd also suspect the seller is in Sullivan IN and that there was a mistake when the ad was posted.

And finally, not a telescope, but related, a Mirror-o-matic:

Already deleted. I emailed the guy asking about the blank and an 8" Dob but he hasn't gotten back to me. Weird.

The ad is still up in New York City, though at more money.

This RAO Sears is IMGF (in my gut feeling) complete and barely used, just judging by what you see on the surface. If I didn't already own more or less the same scope in its Tasco format I'd be all over it. This probably got dumped at SA by someone who had no idea of its quality. I should also say that mine has absolutely outstanding optics and can handle 100x per inch of aperture. The objective alone is worth more than the current bid.

This looks like a storage unit auction C80 or C102 on a Super Polaris, $40 in Vista CA.  I have a cousin out there but he would have no clue how to pack it up and ship it and is too busy to make the drive.

Steal of a deal neal and looks to be a SP -C80. Cali always has the best deals.

the last great deal I got was from Tampa FL.

What scope was that?

A really Nice C8 that did  very nicely on  DPAC and an  Atlas mount with some nice eyepieces and  Dankmeyer power switch diagonal.  Was a sweet deal.  Also, a really nice stellar view right angle finder. attachicon.gifc8 atlas.jpg

did I mention the great rings and the top flat bar to mount a guide scope.

Also, the counterweight set.

I almost bought that. But it was south of Tampa and my heart was not into driving 90 miles away to get it.

A shame.  The mount was worth what the guy was asking for the whole set up.  I did not drive a mile to get it. Was delivered to my front door.

That seller said he had someone before me and i almost talked him out of the deal with you i guess and i was gonna come get it as he did not want to ship it.  I just don't want to fool with re selling stuff again and just let the deal go.

It's essentially complete.  I asked for pictures and it looks just about perfect.  In exchange for that, everyone else should stop bidding and let me get a great deal tongue2.gif

Some 826's like mine have black painted, hinged tube rings. I think the early ones had the natural aluminum rings.

Huh, that ad's the one I saw. Still no response from the guy unfortunately so if I do get anything from him it won't be until next week. Might give him a call since he didn't respond to my email.

It would be totally foolish to assume all the other parts are under the top layer.  One person just went through this type of mess and ended up with no mount. Inquiries should be made. Pictures should be requested.  Packing directions should be discussed. Lets not have it happen again.  Most likely it is all there and beautiful, but cautions should still have a buyer check.    I'm not interested, just FYI.

An earlier poster (#55), said he asked for photos and it looks complete. That said, shipping/packing is always scary.

Looks like some Ebay newby wants that scope rather badly.  Wonder what the final bid is going to be

Unusual NS scope, called Polaris

https://www.ebay.com...is/173111262737

-drl

Probably sold by the Polaris Telescope Shop back in the 60s.

They offered NS eyepieces under their name as well.  I had one at one time -- 6mm Ortho.  Was identical in all respects to the Unitron one except for the name on the band.  That's what made me aware of them.

Parts of that scope and the mount remind me of my Unitron 114.

I wondered when someone was going to post that one.  It basically is a Unitron Model 127 (40 X 700mm).  According to the paperwork, it was imported by Polaris Optical, a Michigan company.  The phone number places it to early 60's or so.  The clamshell and mount are identical to the 127 on the Unitron History site, but with the black knobs instead of the silver ones. Somebody on here should get this one.

Yes.  This is an interesting 'variation' for the Unitron collector.  Definitely worth having.

Just know that if the objective was made by the same source as the Unitron scopes, I wouldn't have much faith in it being good quality.  I have tested two 40mm Unitron objectives, one very early.  Neither one is particularly good.  That said, I plan on keeping my current 40mm Unitron 127 as it's just so darn cute.  But optically, yuck.

Good luck to the new owner.

The RAO 40mm side scope (500mm f/12.5) on my 6345 is superb. Air spaced, a tiny gem of a scope that could live on its own.

Polaris (MI company special labeling) has been discussed. It’s not new information.
