Think Astronomy has just released version 1.3 of Where is M13?, an new type of astronomy application that helps you to understand the 3-D nature of the Galaxy and the deep sky objects we observe within it.

This is the first commercial release, but there is still a free "Lite" version that has roughly the same functionality of previous versions. Other changes include:
  • Added Caldwell, selected NGC/IC and Collinder objects to the object catalog. There are now 601 deep sky objects total.
  • Added printing for the Galaxy View and Sky View.
  • Added Find dialog.
  • Added saving and loading sets of objects.
  • Added Sector Map that shows which constellations you look at when looking in various galactic directions.
  • Added field of view indicator in Galaxy View.
  • Added new User Manual.
  • Added checkbox to toggle between showing black on white or white on black.
  • Added checkbox to toggle between showing absolute data and apparent data.
You may read more about Where is M13? at the the Think Astronomy site and download a trial version from there.

I downloaded this today, and it's very cool!

Great for answering those "big picture" questions, and for getting a handle on just where things fit in together. The various views (top and side views), plus the sky-map, really help visualize where things are.

Thanks for creating this!

Highly recommended.
