Hello to all moon-chaser...

with a windchill factor of - 100° celsius and a sharp sibirian cold wind from the east (partly about 30 km/h) and after an oversleeped occultation of aldebaran i went to a
difficult area of sketching, montes apeninnus...a real minefield. So much details and sharp shadows of the monutainstops. The mine of my black pencil always breaks,
so it was nearly unpossible to sketch the fine peaks in the right way. Here is potential to do it better...

The air was very dry (only about 39% air moisture), but it was bitterly cold, i thought, my fingers broken. After 70 minutes i was be bushed and chilled to the bone.

Telescope: Astrophysics Starfire d=130mm / f=838 mm

Monut: Astrophysics AP900 GTO

Eyepiece: Televue DeLite 3 mm => Magnification 279x

Prism: Zeiss Amici

Date/Time: 23.02.2018 / 18.38 - 19.48 UTC

Thanks a lot for looking and clear skies ! Jens

I will start sketching someday...

Maybe when the weather is warm again, and the clouds have gone...

Imaging is fun, but there's something awesome about capturing the moon exactly as you see it.

Looked before reading and thought it was a black and white image! Very nice!

That is an impressive sketch under such frigid conditions.

The mountain shadows are very well captured.

Very fine.

Again a very fine sketch of a hard to skecth area. I sketchings mountains more difficult in comparison to craters.

I like your commitment to the hobby despite the weather. It's not evident from your sketch that you faced adversity. Looks really good!

Dramatic and so other worldly ( which of course it is )!!  Yes, your commitment is admirable.  I have trouble observing and/or sketching if the temperature goes below 5 celsius ( 42 or so F ).

Regards,

Randolph
