I've searched this forum and also that of the IDA, and have not found a simple presentation to show the disadvantages of light pollution to my local village council. The IDA has a light pollution proposal, but if I were to hand out a 44-page presentation to council members representing a community of fewer than 1200 people, they would close off their minds before I uttered my first words.
I do agree with other posters who believe that appealing to emotions in addition to qualitative facts will increase impact. As stated elsewhere, most people are afraid of the dark, so additional lighting eases their fear. Most are not backyard astronomers, so the ability to better view the night sky is of little concern.
What I believe is needed is something to grab their attention and peak their initial interest. From there, a more complex presentation of facts and regulations can be introduced.
If something like this already exists, point me in the right direction. In the meantime, I'll get to work.
