I'm sure many CN users will be at NEAF and will wish to meet you and Mike.

Make sure you bring a few "handouts" about stuff or services that will be available at the new company.

Markus -

Just letting you and everybody know I am ecstatic with my new APM120 apo binoculars and fork mount...no issues whatsoever.

Too bad I'm on the wrong coast to be at NEAF...would enjoy meeting you and thanking you in person.

Welcome news as expensive shipping back to Germany can be avoided when problems appear.

But what about Wellenform exam, one must still order from Germany?

High power collimation still must be ordered from Germany. I do not know any source in USA who can do this critical job, sorry

sorry

I won't be at NEAF, but I sing the praises of my new APM 152 ED on CN & other forums.  I have yet to have anything but excellent views from 24x to 400x on every object type that I've observed.  It would really help US sales to have a partner / vendor on this side of the Atlantic, and I wish APM all the best in finding & developing that channel.

That seems pretty reasonable. Is it simply collimating, or do you take the objective apart and reoptimize the whole assembly?

Oops. My apologies Markus. I read that wrong. I thought you were offering telescope service through Wellenform. My scope is fine, but if down the road it needed service I thought I could send to Wellenform for adjustment. But, this is about Binos.

Now that is great news. I have not heard of places to actually service telescopes, But I haven’t really been looking either. Good service to have, as my toddler once pushed over my tripod. Luckily no scope on it. If you have that prototype new 140 cell design lying around somewhere, I’ll gladly find a home for it in my prototype scope ;)

I just noticed this small shop today, "Outdoor Sport Optics", it is offset from the road in a typical low-key Pocono strip mall which might be why I never noticed it before.  I did a quick Google search on the name and found out they actually sold astronomy items (there is no advertising or neon signs outside here, you either notice a name of a business on a painted non-illuminated sign way off the road driving by or you don't).

Anyhow ... what's wrong with your marketing department?  I even asked several other locals and they had no clue about it.  I live 3 miles from this place, pass by it all the time (but never really noticed it) and I actually had to chase down information on the internet about it !!!  The web site provided very little info and I did not see any way to check out inventory or order anything.  Apparently it hasn't been open too long, but still - I always thought I knew about what happened in my own neighborhood.  I guess they are not relying on local customer base to keep the doors open and maybe just a repair shop with only basic stock for sale?

Just a couple of weeks ago I spent a couple thousand on astronomy/astrophotography related things ... maybe I could have bought it just down the road if I would have known.  At least did not have to pay shipping or sales tax for my non-local purchases, but I still like to support local business!

Is this business planning any local outreach programs to let the public know it's there or is this supposed to be kept a very low-key secret USA presence??

It just opened. Brand new.

Their initial efforts were probably directed towards their first effort - a large presence at NEAF.

But then even "bricks & mortar" astro stores today sell the most on-line, so that is where they put their marketing efforts.

Hi Poconut,

You are more than welcome to stop by and visit us at OSO. I have been living in the Pocono's since 1982 and been in the Astronomy and outdoor optics business many years before that. I am the Co-Founder and the Co-Chairman of NEAIC and a long time member of The Greater Hazleton Area Astronomical Society (GHAAS), The Lackawanna Astronomy Society (LAS), and The Rockland Astronomy Club (RAC). I am a member of the Puckett's Observatory Supernove Search Team where I co-discovered 25 supernovas and a CV. If you have a question about imaging or just need some advice I will try my best to answer it.

Sounds awesome, I will stop in.  The hot item on my list now is an #11 Losmandy counterweight (1.25" bore), also looking at OAG or guide scopes ... we will talk.

I thought all of the rain around here was my fault for buying another scope last month.  Didn't realize that dozens of scopes had moved into the neighborhood so recently, so I'll have to put part of that blame on you!  grin.gif
