I can't find any information regarding the maximum safe current load on the 12V output jack of the nexstar8GPS. Could I use this output, and thus avoid wire entanglements, for my dewheater (home-made, 1A load)? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It will NOT handle a dew heater. I don't recall the exact rating, but it's like 500milli-amps. It will light up an illuminated reticle and that's about it.
