It's a spotting scope with decent optics and a very unique focusing mechanisn.  If I were selling mine, it wouldn't be at that price.

I would say no more than $50, tops. These are not uncommon. I have two of them.

That's what I got out of it, plus an education in the way Cave built the heavy stuff.  Removing it from it's observatory was an experience that I'm glad I had, and the story of the telescope itself, and it's original owner, is rather remarkable.  George will be telling that when he starts the re-assembly/restoration thread.

Don't feel bad, Chas, George is the proper owner.  He pulled the sword from the stone, I only got it to budge a few inches.

Chuck, I am truly, well and truly humbled.

I'm going to be electronically challenged, but my BiL is an EE and I think between him and the good folks here, we'll get that figured out pretty well.

It's amazing how heavy just the pier is!

I sure want one before my time comes. But my body hurts just thinking about moving one around.  But would be nice to restore one for kicks. Everything about that scope is heavy and can break bones.

Chas, without an observatory, it's nigh on impossible.  I know Tim wheels his around a bit, but they call it an observatory mount, as  you know, they ain't kidding.

I tried to arrange to pick this up a couple of weeks ago, but the owner couldn't seem to get it together to arrange a time.

Now he's lowered the price and re-posted, but I'm tired of trying.

Is that a Cave??

NOT a Cave.  Looks like a Meade.
