What ever happened here. It’s now marked “auction ended” and not shown as sold. Price is also back down to $9.99 with 0 bids, (it had been up to $109 a couple of days ago). Looks to me like some hanky panky went on here!

I received an email that my "bid was retracted". They said that the reason was that "There is mold in the objective lens. It was not disclosed."

So, I'm not sure if someone that was bidding convinced them that this travesty justified eliminating an even playing field, or what. I've inquired to find out if it is going to be listed again. The person that answered said that they weren't sure.

Definitely seems a little fishy. In my email I almost begged them NOT to try and clean it. Hopefully they don't. Also, told them I hoped it was relisted, because it would be a shame to rob the people that were bidding in good faith.

So far, no further response.

I wouldn't be surprised that they don't list it again.

WELL!!! I WAS WRONG!!! is relisted, but look at the item description. What a tragedy. What the heck happened. I hope they didn't throw the objective away.

Regarding SGW, I think Terra is right. Some type of hanky panky.

Took it off and cancelled bids, because of "mold". Ok... But, still suspicious.

Made it active again, but says for "parts only". I get it, liability/CYA, etc. Ok.

BUT, the item description said "no lens", plus there was no mount or tripod in the new pictures... And, now offering shipping. LoL

Now... It's gone again.

I think someone's been chatting them up trying to finagle a deal, or telling them it's worth a gold mine. LoL

I just hope it gets sold completely intact, because it looked like a great, and complete kit. Really a bummer if they break it up.

I'd guess an employee noticed the maximum for the highest bid and decided to make sure it goes home with him or her to get relisted on ebay.  Wait until the last minute on goodwill. Things get screwy when the auctioneer is also the seller.

Dsg, I'm so sorry if you took my little joke wrong.  You left out the dollar sign, and the way you phrased it made it sound like the scope was new in 1800.  No offense meant.  I was just having a little fun with your minor typo.  And don't feel bad about putting it in the wrong thread.  I'm sure you're not the only one who has accidentally done that. wink.png

Of course, this post probably doesn't make a lot of sense to anybody who doesn't remember what was on the previous page, anyway, since we can no longer do multiple quotes within posts, but I did feel the need to apologize to you. smile.png

Like Terra I saw that the  auction ended on that Unitron with $9.99 and wondered what's up?

For a minute I figured it might go on ebay instead.

Sure seems like some hanky panky but if there's an innocent explanation it sounds like the scope is now screwed up because of it. frown.gif

Whatever the reasons, it seems like it's everyone's loss.

After re-reading Scott's post it sounds like somebody wanted the lens, mount, and tripod and then GW re-listed what's left.

Now I can't find any listing at all, so maybe GW decided it was best to give the rest to whoever interfered with the auction.

Whatever the outcome or truth, it stinks!

No problem    Thanks.  I have to   be more exacting and careful as I am inexperienced enough as it is..certainly  I should not  try to go  shooting a post in quickly because it is like shooting  oneself in the foot    I  meant to say    a Tak fc-100dc    it was purchased in Feb new and forsale now for 1800.00   as some one in another thread was waxing poetic about what new scope should I try now  etc and  this scope was suggested by several  folks there   all in good fun   you are stand up GAL all good

Dsg, I think typos are more common than ever now, what with small devices and auto-correct.  I did see that nice Tak for sale this morning, and I'm familiar with the thread you're referring to and that you meant to post in.  Thanks for saying I'm a stand-up guy, but I should clarify that I'm a female.  (My first name is in my signature.)  All is good! smile.png

Now, with apologies to everyone for going off track a bit, back to our regularly scheduled programming.  waytogo.gif

Yeah, it's really odd. What a shame if they really broke it up.

The 152 ain't grab & go... More like tote out in pieces, assemble, then take a nap -- at least for us old folks.

The only relatively heavy part is the mount, unless you set it up a mile away it is good exercise for you ! :-)

This kind of junk is why I don't bid on auctions any more. I've had the same kind of things happen with eBay. Who needs this aggravation and disappointment in their life? Not me. If I can't buy it from an individual and shake their hand in person, it's a no go for me. Same goes for shipping a scope. Never again.

GW had a policy stating employees couldn't purchase at their own store. Don't know if still in effect.

Guessing someone freaked at mold. Thanks to breathless exaggeration of every possible hazard and too many lawsuits CYA is everywhere.

So another classic is needlessly gone.

Maybe I missed something about the Unitron 128 on shopgoodwill. I miss a lot lately. I did contact Goodwill about the general condition of this telescope and whether I could have UPS pick it up with my permission. I got an email explaining that the responder didn't know anything about telescopes and that the eye lenses were dirty or moldy and there was a dent in the tube. Another email came saying the auction had been halted because of mold and would I like to be notified if permission was granted to restart the auction. I replied yes.

I don't see anything nefarious here. I've been collecting since 2008. At times furiously. I have seen similar auction halts that inspired all kinds of conspiracy theory/ suspicious of the auction system posts that when the dust settled I had a Telementor 1 or a Nippon Kogaku on my porch for far less than I was intending to pay. So this is an opportunity...perhaps. Pick-up only just means Goodwill themselves won't ship it. The out of area buyer pays a bit more. You have to pick and choose. For this telescope I would consider additional $ for packing/shipping from third party. I already own the alt/az version clamped to a saddle plate. This telescope is the eq version. It would be fun to own as an early Unitron but terrible to use! There is a reason you want to be able to rotate/slide the telescope tube (Gem mount) within a cuff and not bolted on.  My first serious telescope was an Edmund 3" bolted down on a cradle. I would have gladly traded up for a Tasco 60mm X 910 or 1000 at the time. The sliding weight I get but really dude?

Anyway my money is on the auction will be re-started with a more informed description. But a I also shorted AMD  3 days after the last earnings report. Will see how that turns out! lol
