Tolga dropped off a HUGE box at my house. The box was so large we needed 2 people to bring it inside.

I opened up the box and it had styrofoam covering another box inside.

Removing the styrofoam revealed another box and when I opened the other box there was a report stating the scope was tested.

So does that mean that besides the two of you, you needed two more people?

The case for the telescope was covered by 6 pieces of styrofoam, compelled with the original styrofoam, I had 8 pieces of styrofoam encasing the case, to say it was well packed is an understatement.

Getting to the case it was wrapped in bubble wrap. The case is in NO WAY flimsy or cheap. in my opinion you can ship the scope just in the case and it would have been fine. The case puts all my other cases (except for the Plano gun case that I use to store my camera to shame). This is one super heavy duty case.

Each of the 3 latches is locking. The case is reinforced on all edge. When I say its heavy duty, this case is heavy duty.

Opening up the case reveals a pretty nice 6" telescope.

Tolga and I took it out and played with it a little bit, the focuser is completely overkill (and I love it), but the above are the only pictures for today. Tolga and I met up with a few friends for burger and a few beers and I just got home and I have work tomorrow. So while tonight is a beautiful clear night, I'll have to wait a few days for first light. I'll post a few pictures tomorrow of the scope (astro porn).

No just Tolga and I. The case is pretty large its hard to carry it by yourself. The scope is heavy but not as heavy as you expect. One can carry the scope by itself.

Can't wait for the rest of the story! So far it's been very well presented bow.gif  and very interesting in its use of foreshadowing! popcorn.gif

Great looking case and the scope is awesome. I am sure you will get much joy in using it.  The case looks like road cases I have used for bands.

I was playing with the case this morning it reminds me of a steamer trunk. The locking fasteners, the reinforced edge, the heavy duty body the well padded interior, add weight but protect the scope well. I took the afternoon off as my daughter is doing a lesson today (she rides horses) so I’ll try to get a few pictures before, looking at the weather forecast I may not get first light until middle of the week.

I know everyone says this but refractors really scale up quickly with size. My 80mm looks like a finder, a 31mm Nagler is like a plossl on a regular scope. This is definitely the largest scope I would want in a refractor. But dang she looks sexy!!!

Now that's how you pack a telescope for shipping.  SW, are you paying attention?

Congratulations on your new telescope.  You made a great choice, imo.

Lovely !!

I see that you went for the 3.7" focuser. I look forward to seeing pictures of that, as I think I may have only seen dealer stock pictures of the scope with that massive focuser on.

Clear skies !!
