This poor scope has been used, abused, beaten up, scarred, and broken.

https://www.ebay.com...bitZX:rk:1:pf:0

The price has continued to drop, but it still is too high (with out the shipping it isn't going anywhere.)

I've afraid it's going to wake up one morning and find itself in the dumpster.  Too bad, there may be some useable parts for some other scopes.  Or maybe just let it find peace as it returns to the Earth.

Hard to justify nearly a hundred bucks, with shipping, for something that sells for five or ten bucks at the thrift store.

Ageed!  Even to pick it up the price is way too high.  (guess I wasn't clear)

Uber cool 4.25” F13 planet-killer Newt from one of our own. Lots of attention to detail makes this modern ATM-build very much in the style to a true classic. I can just see it looking across the Capitol Mall at Gort and Klatu’s spaceship!

Warren (Towa) 60x800 AZ + Case -->  https://www.cloudyni...or-60s-vintage/

You don't have to be a Towa collector to appreciate this 1968 or earlier all-original & uncommon Classic.  I don't think I've ever seen a rig where ALL of the eyepieces have the (T) on the tops.  The diagonal is one of the best that Towa bundled with their scopes -- ditto for the bino-style terrestrial prism.  It's very similar to the excellent Stein Towa that I gave to the Boy Scouts:  Asahi-style focuser, heavy & finely knurled knobs, and no doubt the lens is excellent, too.  Makes me regret that I'm no longer collecting...

Neither is suitable for a telescope objective.  The focal lengths are ridiculously short.

Chuck,

I think that is the length of the objective cell - not focal length.  I have been known to be wrong.....

YEs, this is correct. The stated focal length is "unknown. I am quite certain the two objectives and the box are from 3 different things. They just happen to be put together hodge-podge.

The Unitron extension tube looks nice.  However, it is not an extension tube but a tube for one of  the plate cameras.

I didn't catch that on my phone screen, without my readers.  Thanks!

A quick check of the manufacturers website shows that the elements form a close-focus telescope, used as a dental microscope.  The lens on the right has curves too steep to be the objective, it's probably the "eyepiece", the one on the left is the objective.

Looks like a product currently made.  Check out the company website, they make a lot of stuff.  I doubt these lenses would make a decent astro telescope, since they were designed as a system and for finite object-image distances (not infinity).

https://www.seilermi...al-microscopes/

And for that kind of money you could get a really nice ED objective lens and have change left over.

Interesting. hmm.............

Anything made for a surgical use is much more expensive than a consumer product. The next time I go in for surgery, I hope they are using very high quality equipment!

That said, a Google search for Seiler Objective lens set found single lens for around the price of this listing.

I hope my dentist isn't buying used lenses on eBay. (In reality, the most likely downside would be to the dentist's pride.)
