Does anyone run ASIAIR with a Vixen mount?

Vixen mounts are not officially supported by ASIAIR, but ZWO writes that ASIAIR would run with any mount?

Hey Nikguy,

Did you ever find an answer to this?

Vixen mounts are not supported by ASIAIR or other similar products like Ekos Live (based on INDI, see: https://indilib.org/...lescopes.html)!

Interesting Ken!

ASIAir and INDI looks like the same, but its not the same.

I dont know if it possible to run INDI under Android or Windows?

As far as I know ASIAir uses INDI drivers. From https://astronomy-im...duct/zwo-asiair "ASIAIR control the mount through INDI"

But the Starbook driver is very new so maybe not included with ASIAir (maybe worth asking ZWO directly)

INDI runs only on Linux  and there is an OSX version available through a third party. However INDI is designed for distributed computing and whilst the drivers need to run on Linux, the client software can run on any platform. ASIAir is actually a bundle of INDI and proprietary drivers on a Raspberry Pi3 and an IOS client. There are other clients available. Kstars/Ekos is a planetarium and astrophotography tool that runs on Windows, Linux and OSX. CdC and Stellarium also have INDI interfaces as does PHD2.  Then there is Ekos Live which runs in a web browser and therefore can run on essentially any platform.

As an alternative to the ASIAir RPi server you can instead build your own or purchase StellarMate. The advantage of that is that you have access to all the drivers including those for cameras other than ZWO. And in my case I use an alternative computer which provides USB3 ports and eMMC storage and other useful features.

I think what many people fail to realise is that the main value-add component of ASIAir is the IOS client software. If you aren't interested in using that then the other INDI options could be a better choice.

To add to this, I just noticed this very recent comment on the ASIAIR on ZWO's site:

yoshi – January 8, 2019:

Will it support vixen starbook TEN?
According to the INDI HP(https://indilib.org/...pes/vixen.html)
It announced that INDI vixen starbook driver is released as a 3rd party driver.

Katherine Tsai – January 8, 2019:

Theoretically, ASIAIR could support this mount, but we have not test it.

_____________
So it's just a big maybe at this point. Still researching.

Further Update:

ASIAIR based on INDI (see posting above) and since last update of INDI-Library it supports VIXEN-Mounts over starkbook.

In INDI-Forum report a user, that INDI runs with a SXD2 Mount.

He reports also of some problems with the slew speed setting...but the developer of the driver ensures an update to solve this problem.
