Dozens of radio signals emanating from deep space have been discovered. These signals—known as fast radio bursts (FRBs)—were first discovered just over a decade ago and since then have posed a mystery for scientists studying them.

The source of this burst has been identified as a galaxy 3.7 billion light-years away—but what is causing it still defies explanation.

Hmmm...3.7 billion light-years away....I guess a little too far to hop on over to check it out...unless we develop wormhole tech? grin.gif

Wouldn't it be funny if we recorded those signals and played them back to hear our first radio programs  shocked.gif   Hum, then the Universe would be a twisted mess.

This was one of the gags in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.  Ford Prefect beamed the speaking clock back to Earth from a distant star as a prank.

Why does everything have to be so complicated? It was so simple when Vega called (in the movie Contact) from 26 light years away but this 3.7 billion light year thing is really difficult. This latest long distance call is really going to run up our phone bill, especially if they called collect and haven't hung up in ten years.

On a more serious note, if a relatively nearby civilization wanted to contact us and absolutely have us identify their attempt as intelligent, one thing they could do is record a program emanating from us and amplify it and beam it back.

'I Love Lucy' & The Honeymooners' episodes coming from Alpha Centauri system would be a dead give-away that intelligent life lived there.

Pesse (On the other hand, if they beam back episodes of 'The kardasians', there would still be doubt.) Mist
