I recently gave away the optics for an RV-6 to another CNer for a building class.

Go go go go go to Austin. :D

J.W. that is just beautiful.
Not helpful to my resolve not to go to Austin today.

Great day for a road trip.  Rain is over and the weather is just supposed to get better all day.

I'd probably go get it if I wasn't restoring (well, restomodding) one already.

I still say the RV-6 just does not get the respect it deserves, mainly because they were sold in such large numbers and there seems to be a never ending supply.

RV-6 tempting but no, no, no.

https://www.facebook...57230478175897/

This is tempting.  If my brother is doing Austin for church today then I'd have him pick it up. It would be ideal for my niece.

Probably not happening though.  It looks like a good deal if functioning with OK optics.

I was one of those immature teenage Refractor Snobs back then.  I realized that a commercially-made Newtonian would have a better mirror than that 8" RFT I made; but I reasoned, the RV-6 is cheap -- how can it be any good?  Live & learn...

Never had one or seen one for sale in within 100 miles of me.  Had the 8" version will killer optics, but the mount was way too small for a 8" nate

I still have an RV6.  I would say for the price it is one of the best scopes I ever bought.

Great price for that RV6.  Looks to be in really good shape.

I need to, just need to, this is here, that posted RV6 is there. I've been showing versions of this picture moved around the basement to various locations, for a few....years now?  It was worse. I found I had 4 sets of legs and piers at one time so I managed to sell a set recently to a happy, very happy camper looking for just that to complete his RV-6. I disposed of a completely shattered and butchered fine gey/green Dynascope RV tube, and sent off the parts for practically the cost of shipping to help what I think was a father/son thing. Spare me the salvage stories, that Dynascope tube was toasted - I'd know. The picture is a set of three, optics all well kept, and an extra mount assembly with various extra other stuff that I have no idea about where it all came from. The purchases are memory toast as bad as that Dynascope tube - I'd know, errr or not. Cosmetics are the only time consumers. One can be put together mechanically and optically sound in a morning.  Cosmetics are a finer line with super easy worthwhile spit shine and spruce up (still morning assembly), and weeks of correct paint cure and full restoration attention. The Edmund Great 8 is off the counter today and I'm forcing some finer finger finesse to put that together, then....think about it.  Still doing catch up on some lightly altered life style but Winter ready and that takes precedence over scope stuff, it's been a push.

The posted one would stay on the ranch if it happened but no word from the bro this morning so not likely. Fact is, the RV-6 is a simple durable cheap nostalgic well performing tracking fun easy to share with the shorter people and much more.....and the posted one looks like a very nice deal, not a give away.

Edit: forgot the pictures. also just took one of the eyepieces. Everything in this cubby is loaded with the correct era Criterions, most cases are mint sets. I think I have them all. I tallied them and have enough extras to kind of make an original offer type situation. Criterion offered things like picking three out of 5 for a factory purchase. The posted scope has better eyepieces to boot. I just thought being able to make a factory original kind of offer would be fun. Life is short, have fun. Needless to say, none of this will be happening overly soon here so please don't inquire, go buy that one in Austin. Thanks.

Ok giving credit to the optics and the camera     but I cannot think of anyone who takes such fine shots like that on classic scopes     of modest size

I’m not sure it would fit in the vette topless or not. I don’t even think it would fit in my house or I’d be buying it.

that's a little over 100 miles from Tampa.   I am sure you could go to Uhaul and get a van to pick it up in.   Guess there goes the saying there are never any deals in FL.
