hi all,

last night I made this observation:

9.11.2018, 21:40 UT, SQL 20.45mag region, cold and fog at the ground

12" Dobson, V 86x

The pair stood only 18.5` apart !

I measured 38P :

10.2mag, DC 2/3, diameter 2.3`

This night You can see this conjunction again !

Hi Christian

Nice rendez-vous with the eskimo! Bravo that's not common.

I miss this conjunction the weather is very bad.

I fully agree with your data (magn, diameter 100% matching) and your sketch except for the condensation (DC) where this morning I estimated more 5/6 than yours.

Maybe a back star for me or a physical modification of the nucleus ?

To compare this here's my sketch :

PS: I add an option to my new Mewlon: a 1.5 extender, now my total focal is 3.75m or f15.  The view stays perfect, this is the nominal focal for the main mirror.  I like this combination.

Michel

Christian and Michel,

Two impressive sketches of the comet 38P.

Christian - capturing the comet so close to NGC 2392 is very good. You get a nice size comparison here with that.

Frank :)
