Ah, a new scope to share with you all.

We've seen a lot of the Hy-Score 451 model Goto telescopes shown here.   This is the Japanese version Model 201.  Given the Goto Japan label on the eyepieces, dtd 1959 or later.   Couldn't pass this up given the excellent condition, the completeness of the kit (yes that is the original eyepiece tray), and the additional 4mm Or eyepiece.  HyScore scopes were better documented with inspection disk and contents list properly signed off, but the eyepieces do a good job of dating this rare non-Lazslo import.

Well there is a little clean up to do.  Small amount of corrosion to remove and chrome to polish (love those 'Goto' headed leg bolts).  Still, case is wonderful, legs only a few scratches with original finish very nice.

I just DPAC'd the optics, and of the four Goto 60mm f/15 Fraunhofer lenses I own (one in an early Uranus, Eros, HyScore 451 and this 201), the 201 has the best DPAC image with very nice straight lines both inside and outside of focus.  No edge effect at all.  Couldn't be happier and very thankful for the encouragement of DaveG to build that little tester. waytogo.gif

Super nice! My 451 didn’t have the tray. It does have the NTOE and is dated Dec. 1957.

Congrats, very nice telescope and beautiful condition as well. Love these 60mm scopes, just something inherently “classic” about them. Would like to see a pic of your DPAC tester as well.

I am rethinking the 1959 date.  The 451 is dated Feb 1958 and its eyepieces are Goto Japan.  Probably some years of overlap.  Better to say late 50's.

Here's my DPAC setup.  8" flat on a nifty adjustment platform for a 6" that I modified to hold the larger flat.  Green LED offset in a plastic film container with a 160LPI grating inside the cap.  Add some blocks to rest the OTA on, and use a laser collimator to align the optics to the mirror and test.  Have .965 converters to 1.25 and 2" and 1.25" draw tube extensions to get to focus.  Easy to move around.  Takes no more than about 5 minutes to setup OTA and test.  Have tested a 10" Cave mirror in sections, and pretty much all my refractors and other reflectors.  Also my Maks.
