I want to attempt to upgrade the hand control firmware on my used Atlas mount, but when I got the mount from the previous owner, it didn't come with the proper cable.

What kind of cable do I need (specifically, the pinout)?  Can I make one, or do I need to buy it?

You can make one, but they are also a common item from astronomy dealers. http://scopestuff.com/ss_scs2.htm
