I have the ASIAir and Takahashi EM-200 Mount that’s at least 15 years old.

The ASIAir  is unable to connect. This is the error screenshot

image1.png

I connected ASI USB’s port to the USB to RS232 cable supplied in the package. Then I used the Tak’s RS232 cable to a custom port on Tak EM200. I turned on the mount and can’t make connection from the ASI app.

In addition Sky Safari oh iPhone won’t connect to the mount when on the ASI WiFi network.

This is the error from Sky Safari on my iPhone

Do you know what is going on? I was able to connect to the Tak mount using SkySafari Skywire cable via the lightning port on my iPhone and via RS232 on my Windows 10 laptop. So I knwo the RS232 port works and can handle connections to control it.

Although I do not have an ASIAir, the Baud rate that you selected for the Tak EM-200 is not the "normal" 9600.  It is 19200.

Might not be a supported mount.

A slower baud rate and it won’t work? I’ll try again soon.

Granted I don't know your mount at all, but for it to work on my Atlas I connect an ST4 cable from my guide camera to my mount for guiding AS WELL AS a USB connection (from the AsiAir) via RS232 (with an adapter connecting the rs232 to an ST4 cable) which connects to the handset on my mount.

Maybe you need a better serial converter ... INDI has support for EM200 so as long as ZWO has not stripped out that driver it should work ...

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Hmm, I used the USB to serial cable that came with the ASIAir. That should be pretty good right?

The ASIAir app has a listing for Temma Takahashi (as you can see in the first post) which is the only one that can match my EM-200.

I will also try the different baud rate.

I can try connecting the ST-4 cable from my guide camera to the mount. I didn't think that is necessary for a mount connection, but I will try it. Previously I was able to control the mount and run guiding from the serial cable only connected to my laptop. That is why I didn't think ST-4 is necessary.

Nope, there are quality issues with cheap serial converters, if you read the thread I linked you see why ...

the AISAir also has an option for connecting via EQMod.

What exactly is EQMod? Is it just a cable that skips the handset of my Orion Sirius so I can go straight from USB to the hand controller port on my mount? After that the ASIAir does what it does but bypassing the handset?

You need or a serial cable that fits the HC or one that indeed replaces the complete handset and directly connects to the mount, there are several vendors selling this cable.

EQMOD is not for Tak, but is the protocol used by Skywatcher/Orion mounts.

My handset on my Orion Sirius is a v2.05.

In addition, the mount might have older firmware. I wouldn’t know.

Will EQMOD still work?

Well, is the mount connected to /dev/ttyUSB0? That is what you are telling the software to connect to. It is not going to do some auto-detect magic for you. If that is the wrong port (which I suspect it is) it will never connect.

yes it is, the ASIAir actually does auto detect. If i switch it to another port, the message will update automatically

I found out from ZWO that the next version of the ASIAir app will have Tak mount support (indicating this current version has an issue)
