Hello,

I had the opportunity to buy something from a local friend. He generously lent me the scope the Saturday after Thanksgiving for a try-before-I-buy session. I thought I'd share some pictures taken through the scope.

I used an ASI-290MC camera through the scope on the Moon, as it was nearly full that evening.

The first two Moon images were taken at native focal length.

Afterwards, I decided to try with a 2X Barlow. The scope is optimized for binoviewing and came with only 1 extender. I had to jury-rig a few extenders to come to focus.

Note that while I was using  a OSC camera, details came out better in monochrome.

Finally, M42 was up high enough for me to give it a try. I wasn't too pleased with the star shapes through the OSC camera and figured it was likely from atmospheric refraction (M42 was up, but not that high!). So I switched to an ASI-174MM camera and attached a 6nm Astrodon H-alpha filter. I shot 12 15-second shots for this test image.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results and ended up buying the scope.

I was out in our backyard tonight, hoping to catch 46P/Wirtanen. No love. Either its location in my software is out of date or it's hopelessly lost in light pollution. And any efforts to wait a little longer were stymied by clouds bawling.gif

Before trying for the comet, I thought I'd try a dress rehearsal for next month's lunar eclipse (assuming the sky doesn't have other plans again bangbang.gif). So I put a Canon t6i on it and shot this. A single 1/125 second exposure at ISO 200. Cropped and resized 50% for presentation. I just did an autocolor adjustment and sharpening in Photoshop.

This scope is courtesy of Jeff B. You've seen pictures he's taken of this scope in his various posts. When  I found out he was planning on selling it, I had to give it a shot. So far, so good. Other than.... it's BIG.

Here's one of his glamor shots of it.
