I'm working through Luginbuhl and Skiff -- Observing Handbook and Catalogue of Deep-Sky Objects.  It was written just before the release of the original Uranometria 2000 atlas in 1990.  The catalogue contains data and descriptions of over 2000 of the brightest Deep-Sky objects.  I've started creating SkySafari lists for each of the constellations in the book and have included links to them below.  I'll update with additional lists as I can get them done, or if anyone is interested who has the book, please continue the effort with me by adding your own...

Alright, I give up.  How do you import the new SkySafari lists into the LiveSky  observing lists.  I have LiveSky premium and Sky Safari 6 Pro.  I can import from online repository but have not find a way to import Brent's lists.  I feel like an idiot not being able to figure it out.  So I would appreciate any help with this matter.

JIM262,

They don't make it easy to figure out that's for sure.  Once figured out though, it's pretty simple.  If you have an IOS device, some instructions are posted in this thread: https://www.cloudyni...s/#entry9019626.

I haven't tried doing it with an Android though, so maybe someone else can answer...

Thanks, Brent.  I saw your explanation, using Itunes on the Ipad and that worked for me.

Thank you also for the lists, going out now to see some sky stuff, it's been a long time since we had a somewhat clear skies.

Jim

Your lucky...  Seemingly perpetual clouds are the main reason I'm making these list...

Thank you very much Brent for doing this! I just bought the Observing Handbook and Catalogue of Deep-Sky Objects earlier this year to augment my Burnham's Celestial Handbook series (I also have the N+S volumes of Uranometria 2000.0 but not the Deep Sky Field Guide... YET!).

AND... I use SkySafari!

AWESOME! :D

IMO, this is the best single volume deep-sky reference book.  Very handy at the eyepiece.

If anyone is interested, I've found it's easier to compile these lists using a dedicated observational planning application and not SkySafari.  I use SkyTools 3 and the advanced database search feature.  I can filter the database down to specific constellations, objects, whatever and sort by RA.  The objects then fall out very easily.  SkyTools then allows the export of the list as a skylist file.

SkySafari itself is not that easy to use to make observing lists.  Maybe that's why lists are not as popular as they could be...

Your welcome Rick.  I need to grab a copy of the Deep-Sky Field Guide too.  It's a wonder I haven't gotten it yet given that I was friends with Murray when he was working on it.  Anyone interested in creating a skylist file for that massive volume???

Hello Brent,

I, too, thank you for making these lists!

And member GaryJCarter has got another thread going where he produced some nice lists too based on the books by Stephen J. O’Meara.

Great stuff... thanks to you both.

Kevin
