G'day all,

 

I took a crack at Wirtanen deep in the moonlight last night. I applied the same method I've been using for light pollution (i.e., finding the black point by channel and setting the clip point for each 10 levels lower before processing). With the moon at 69% illumination about 45˚ away, it didn't turn out too bad, but you can see the moonlight encroaching on the left:

Processed in Photoshop CS5 w/Astronomy Tools v1.6

Scaled to 33%, cropped to 1440×960

I found I can get a slight noise improvement on the comet if I use the green layer as a luminosity layer (GRGB?)…
