Has anyone heard anything about these? I don't recall seeing them the last time I checked out Sharpstar's website.

They don't have any details on the 140, just some photos. Both seem to be geared toward imagers with the fast focal ratios. I'm really interested in the 140! I wonder if any companies are going to pick it up, like TS or Astro-Tech. They certainly seem like interesting scopes, and could be awesome if done right! Heck, the 130 has removable tube sections to make it compact, just like their 90 f/6.6.

They look promising!

Should be interesting to see which Re-Brander(s) grabs these as their "own".

...and then tries to convince us that these have "proprietary" lenses which are made to higher standards than the other copycat "clones."

TS used to carry the sharpstar 130 f6.6 . I'm not sure when or why they stopped listing it other than a guess that the 130 f7 sells better.

I'm debating whether to call my line Scottahashi, or maybe Scott-Physics. ScoTTEC?  ScottVue?

All kidding aside, these look like they have the potential for being quite nice scopes.  It's good to have lots of choices available. :ubetcha:

I would like to be able to buy a fast 5" f6.5 triplet with fcd100 or fpl53 glass. For sure the correction would not be as perfect as if it was longer but visually it would probably be all right and would still provide that amazing wide field I can get out of my AR127 achromat.

Sharpstar usually makes a really nice scope. They are probably the premium Chinese maker. Very interesting for photography.

I saw the 107mm triplet on sale here for close to 1900€. I was expecting a bit less, since these are basically 'OEM' products. I wonder how much an outfit like TS, SW or Orion will pay them, considering that they also have to make a profit out of rebranding and reselling them (and they also have to maintain customer support).

The 140mm looks very interesting... I wonder if it may become a competitive alternative to the famed APM 140mm.

Isn’t the 140 the same telescope as the APM 140 SD doublet?

Not at all. The Sharpstar is a triplet and has faster focal ratio, while the APM 140 is a doublet, with slightly longer focal ratio. The mechanics are also very different. Different focuser, etc.

Superficially, they may look a bit alike and appear to be close in specs, but I think they will appeal to different market segments. The SharpStar is more of an imaging scope, while the APM is more geared towards the visual crowd.

No but it's the same size and F/L as the ES 140 Triplet (although the ES is CF).

I immediately thought of the ES140 after I saw these, but I thought ES got their lenses from JOC. Maybe they are using multiple manufacturers now?

ES is owned by JOC, and are just a marketing brand name operation used in the US market. Very little ES branded product is sold outside the US. So it would be near impossible for a JOC owned product line to use another company's lenses.

So you think they are two different lenses then? Just happened to have the same parameters? It’s possible Sharpstar saw the ES one and wanted to do it for cheaper.

So it seems TS now lists it, and has it in stock, at €4000.  Not much info on the page though :(

Very tempting

The Sharpstar 140 has two ED lenses, glass types unstated, if it used FPL-53 or FCD100 you can bet they would advertise that fact. A friend scientist w Zemax, believes little is gained using two less abnormal glasses like FPL-51 or FK-61, which we believe is whatis being used. Complicating is possibly a Lanthanum element.

The ES 140 version is $2000 more and clearly uses FPL-53. So similar likely the same scope with an upgrade option from the mfr.

Frustrating no tests or reviews out there.

Indeed I think that Sharpstars designs are more imaging oriented . Some of them can be used visually of course but as most of them are  triplets , and some with dedicated FF, so you know at who they are aiming at..
