This looks like a scam...zero feedback for the seller, no specific seller-written description of the actual item at all, Ebay supplied info for a different scope, just one photo.

Tom

Something is definitely not right.

Something is definitely not right.

It looks fishy, but ebay does offer a money back guarantee on it. I have used that once. It went very well. So maybe??????????????

BTW, anyone notice the seller has been a member of ebay for all of about 48 hours?

6" f/8 ota Edmund steel tube I think

https://www.ebay.com...cKpRT:rk:3:pf:0

What is mounted on the tube next to the focuser? Anyone know what that is?

Maybe a military surplus right angle gunsight serving as a finderscope?

I'm not sure that is attached to the tube. It would be mounted 'off tangent' to the tube. Maybe attached to something behind the OTA in the picture?

Monolux 4352 60/700 on Goodwill, Southern NJ, and will ship:

https://www.shopgood...m/Item/62182886

Probably a mediocre scope, has at least one visible dent, but could be a cheap way to get a nice wooden case and tripod legs.

I don't think so, the last photo looks down the tube and you can see 4 bolts coming through in just about the right location.

Newer version with the two thumbscrews on the saddle and the thinner legs. It could be a good deal.

Tom is referring to a Celestron 4" fluorite scope which I posted here:

https://www.ebay.com...cKj5o:rk:1:pf:0

I would say the newbie seller with no feedback (we were all newborns one day) is an inexperienced seller. Maybe add clueless.

On new sellers with low feedback, eBay will hold the payments in escrow until the buyer posts positive feedback, or until a certain period of time (weeks or months) have passed. This keeps funds available for refunds in case a new seller is a scammer, or inept. In some ways buying from a zero feedback seller is safer than buying from established sellers!

(I'm not talking about Tom! I've bought things from Tom. He's great.)

Asking the seller a few questions would be a good idea. Sellers can be chummy, or too busy, or jerks, etc.

With new sellers, it's really important to check all of the pictures very carefully, ask for more pictures if needed, and ask lots of questions (don't assume anything).

Even sellers with really high feedback numbers can end up sending out really bad equipment. A recent example would be the C8 with black with silver knobs with fungal colonies growing all over the optics and inside the eyepieces. That's why it's important to never assume the seller has accurately described the condition of the optics - ask to see pictures of the actual equipment and judge for yourself. If in doubt, share the pictures here and ask for advice.

Good Grief!  On another thread I talked about how hard it is to downsize, and on this page, 3 temptations:  FC-76, 10TE, and rare rare 38T...  Of these 3, I'm most impressed by the 38T.

The Monolux 4352 looks like a late-60s Towa.  Probably has/had a good to very good lens -- do y'all see spacers?  Not sure when Towa started using clear vinyl rings, but my 1978 model had them.

Thanks for your help, Johann.  The FC-76 & 10TE are redundant -- already have a fluorite & a Royal.  But the 38T is interesting...

Looks like it might be a Unitron 128 mount.

At least Unitron of some type.  If it is a 128, it is probably worth at least 4x that amount with the legs too.  If it is a 142, then...that is a crazy deal.

Yes, somebody here please buy that 38T!  I have one -- or mine may be a Meade 826, long story -- but it is a great performer.  The one in the ad looks to be in very decent overall condition.  And they sure are pretty all dressed in red!

Scott,

I think you are correct about it being Unitron. I left an email and text. Couple strange things, ad says it was posted 22 bays ago. Only saw this last night. And the area code is north Cali
