I believe it's been posted somewhere in this forum (C8 Registry?), but I can't find it.

Here's a couple more from the film

Had to dingy up the corrector to prevent any visible reflections.

Yes that was a great movie, I loved the props.  Notice how puzzled he is that his drift alignment isn't working!

A variety of telescopes in Can't Buy Me Love (1987). I think the blue telescope with the sale tag appears to be a Meade Schmidt-Newtonian CometTracker. Classic 80s comedy btw.

Shout out to classic binoculars

In the movie "The Burbs" Bruce Dern's character is on his roof spying on the neighbors - using his Celestron 20x80 Deluxe binocs (the tall ones).

Silly, fun movie - and their house is right next door so he could have been reading thier mail...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And - I just picked up a nice used pair of these wink.gif

Is that Bruce Dern in the last picture, or Captain Sensible?

Movie trailer for the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Its a short scene but shows an observatory that has seen better days.

We also see an ape looking thru the eyepiece. And there is a new trailer where a human also looks and they examine a model of the solar system.

I'm curious to know what they look at and how this effects the plot.

Same hat, same hair. But looks like a bit of mustache in last photo.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

I saw the movie and without spoiling anything an ape and human look thru the eyepiece. And they return to the observatory at the end.

But we never actually see what they are looking at. It's implied it has some effect on both societies and there are various theories online. It could just be they are awed by the heavens or it could be something more significant.

Also this is probably meant to be Griffith Observatory since we saw them at LAX earlier.

That's sort of how it looked in 2001 before they closed for maintenance and remodeling. grin.gif

Seriously, somewhere I have photos from then and it was in fairly rough shape.

My older kids wanted to see the latest Mad Max "Furiosa" film.  The best moment for me was a scene with an array of telescopes used to spy on the horizon from a high citadel.  "This movie is not so bad, after all", I think.  And then a character is shown pointing the wrong end of what looks like a Tasco 11TE-5 Newtonian at some distant plot devise...

Here’s some Japanese giant ship binoculars from a scene in what I think is the BEST Godzilla movie ever! GODZILLA MINUS ONE! Great story, wonderful acting, amazing special effects! It’s even made by Toho, the studio that made the original, as a 70th Anniversary Commemorative Prequel!

Well it stood out so easy back at the movies in 1977.  Most scopes i see on Tv shows are just junk scopes or pointed the wrong way.

Well you can't point binoculars the wrong way, unless you do it deliberately to see all of Godzlilla when he's breathing down your neck :)

A friend said there is an orange tubed Celestron in the new Mad max film, thinks it might have been a C8. Has anyone else seen the movie and can confirm what the scope is?

I think there was a C8 in 007 film in 1983.
