I have no idea what crimgy Continental means. Am I too old, too young - or perhaps too uncool?

The character was The Continental and I believe he meant cringy.
Pretty much hard to watch. I scanned it and the telescope is in the background at about 4:40

Hilarious character. Walken also had a recurring skit "The Trivial Zone" where he'd get psychic messages from the future about ham sandwiches that were below par.

There was a nice telescope used on the set in the series , Avenue5 ( season1 episode 4 ) starring Hugh Laurie . The episode was titled “ Wait a minute , then who was that on the ladder ? “ In one scene a telescope is used that actually looks like it could work in real life even though it’s on a fictitious spaceship . Not sure there was an eyepiece but appeared to have a visual display attached .Tried to track down an image but skill set is wanting ( Luddite tendencies) .

Masked Singer, Boogie Woogie
"Classic" telescopes. Not modern scrap used on a tacky singing show.

From the movie Elevation (2024). We thought the movie was pretty bad as well, then at the very end there was this.....the scope is pointed at the ground.
Not sure there is any thing else to say

Oh, this turned up before. I'm trying to remember if it's the most silly example of using a telescope I've seen on TV or movie. I think so. But others have come close.

Aside from the occasional repainted Celestron or rare appearance of a Questar, the vast majority of astro equipment seen on TV and in Hollywood appear to be derelict props, likely scraped Tasco’s and Bushnell’s from old sitcoms, even old pieces of plumbing equipment, usually used inappropriately by looking through the wrong end! That’s what makes this CN thread so hilariously inappropriate!

Here's an adaptation of "War of the Worlds" which I just discovered - it's not supposed to be very good, but it started with a telescope bang! At 3:38 into the video a classic orange C8 appears, not a contemporary (in 2005) black C8. This is a rare case with correct use, and the eyepiece label is readable! Parks Optical 25mm Kellner.

Gun-toting, fist-punching, trouble-fixing Catholic priest in "The Man from Rome" movie I came across last week...don't think those windows open, but at least the scope is orientated the right way! Apologies for the poor snap...

A classic scope in a classic cigarette ad.. This is the back cover of the April 1962 edition of Popular Mechanics. This lucky guy not only has a large, classic refractor, but a fresh pack of Winstons AND a wife who brings him coffee while he is observing! It actually looks like a real scope in the ad, you can see the counterweight and a slo-mo cable, and the diagonal is pointing the right way up. Looks somewhat under-mounted though...
