Painting them would be better in the end, but a real PITA. I take black fine line Sharpies and redo my rules then take a single ply tissue like Scott toilet paper and fold it once or twice over a flat piece of polycarbonate, then lightly mist 91% isopropyl alcohol on the tissue and wipe the rules. It does a decent job and would last longer on an untouched surface.
