There's a nice looking Quantum 4 on eBay, listed among the Questars. A search of Questar Maksutov will turn it up.

That sold rather fast after your post.  Good deal.

Had one in the early 90s. Excellent optics!

A friend had a Q4 when we still had our Questar. The Q4 seemed to do better than the modest increase in aperture implied.

But the Questar remains king if you need a functioning equatorial in a small case.

I know it is sold, but do you have a link to the auction?

Had the 4" in the 90´s. Liked  the optics. It came in a nice wooden case. I was told the OTI Quantum chief designer was a former Questar employee.

I had a couple of 4's and a six.  There was indeed a fairly messy time at Questar after Braymer's death.  Questar survived of course and OTI morphed into Davro.  Not sure who does more government work at this point, but Questar certainly retained the amateur market.  I loved my Q4s and Q6.  In the end though the Standard Questar with PG1 from '86 that I own will be the last telescope I own.  waytogo.gif waytogo.gif

I have a lengthy hand written letter from a dealer strongly arguing I buy a Quantum 4 back in their day. Unfortunately for him, I really needed a new car, so funds were simply not available. Getting to work was a high priority.

OTI did a nice job, but Braymer really did nail the size thing regarding a compact, take it anywhere scope.  I never thought my C5 was really portable.  Took me about three of them to figure that out.  When I look at Tom's Q4 above I remember back to lugging that case up out of the basement.  Beautiful as it was it was a royal pain.  Q6 was as much of a setup task as Q7.  I had a Q4 field scope and that was okay. waytogo.gif

Still haven't heard that Questar got their Q5 goto combination out the door.

I hear you there, my 1985 Standard will be my last! I just love the little scope!

After initial introduction to the market, they upped prices.
