Hi Everyone,

after a good deal of time I will be laying down a 3.6m observatory in the next 20 days. This first image captures the location where the concrete base and the dome will be built. You will notice my kids staring at the probe hole digged to assesss the type of soil.

Beautiful location for an observatory!  Is that tall pole with the top arc going to block the view to the south-east?

Pole would make a good location for a weather station.  Looks like a very nice location good luck!  Keep us posted on your progress.

What is the large building behind the “Bobcat”?

Is it yours to use?

Unfortunately not, that’s a public building belonging to the canton.

The dome is located in the countryside, and here in Switzerland we can’t build anymore on that precious land considered (rightly) common capital for future generations. the construction of a newer building (like this dome) is possible UNIQUELY at max 4m distance from an existing building (that’s why we are close to that building). And the dome got a special permission as this is recognized of public utility (I will in fact run projects with the local high school) otherwise would have simply been impossible to build whatsoever.

best,

Marco

...and this night I made a detour in the mountain to check the status of the concrete base (sorry for the horrendous picture).

...pier casted, hard concrete part finished, leveling the Dan’s pier and the mount and polar aligning the mount (waiting for the dome to come).

you have an idea of the sky quality (circa 30’ and 1.5’ exposures respectively).

...and the story continues..we had last month the unpleasant sensation to discover that the building team poured the pier concrete together with the concrete base. Once the scope mounted, vibration where not acceptable and they had to cut the concrete and dig a second hole at the center (now with 1m depth and 1m diameter - now filled with new concrete...
