My C5 needed collimation after I epoxied the corrector plate rim back on the tube.  Collimation on these is a bit tricky and I was dreading it.

While searching this forum and the internet, I stumbled across a tool called a Duncan Mask.  I cut one for my C5.  It worked like a million bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dimensions on the internet are for a much larger scope, a 11 or 14 inch SCT.  I don't recall.  I just eyeballed it.  The instructions specify a 400 power eyepiece.  My experience was different.  Best views of the "Y" were at 80 power with a 15mm eyepiece (FL = 1200mm).

Someone should begin making and selling these.  I'd buy one.  I'm too lazy to make my own :)

Maybe Farpoint or similar.....

Hey, I want to make one for my vintage C5. Any chance you could post links to the directions for making one or share a scan/info for your mask so I can copy it? This looks awesome, thank you!

I think I'll make one of these to try out on my Edge, looks interesting. I can't believe I haven't seen it before.

Would a Dunkin Mask work on a Comet Catcher - i.e., a Schmidt Newtonian?

Don W posted the link I used.

I have no idea if a Duncan mask would work with a Schmidt Newtonian.  If you want to check back, I can tell you.

I am going to cut a mask for my C8.  I will then also test the mask on an 8 inch DOB.  If it works on the DOB, it will work on your SN.
