Can anyone tell me how to disassemble the base in order to gain access to the RA drive? I've seen the YouTube videos for the older ETX scopes but the Observer Series is different.

You have to take off the six rubber pads on the bottom. Theres a screw under each one.

Mine were a pain and were glued on really well I resorted to a sharp wood chisel to scrap them off.

Then replaced them with rubber bumpers the same bought from a hardware store.

Everything else is relatively easy.

That will give you access to the motor and worm drive.

To access the gear and clutch you then have to take the forks and

plastic cover plate off under the RA clutch knob as well.

I have some pictures if they’re of use to you.

Al,

I was able to make my repair. The positive wire to the motor had broken when I attached the telescope to my pier with a bolt that was too long. Thanks for the pix and info!
