In another email I received from Kevin from their Tech Support regarding the CEM40, this item is supposed to be machined.  I'll say this, I've received a ton of support from Ioptron, considering my IEQ45 Pro was bought used.  And, they respond fairly quickly as well.  It will be interesting to learn more about this latest mount(s) from Ioptron.

All mounts are machined on the inside, the working parts.  Some have machined casings outside, that's basically cosmetic.

I am not sure if I can post that here. Do not want to get kicked from CN or FB group :)   It looked interesting though with something  like built in pole master

Anyone can do a web search for "ioptron CEM40" and find the Chinese forum posts with the FB posts.  There are several pictures too.  Looks pretty.  smile.gif

P.S. - You will need to look at the link in Chinese and not translated to get the links to the FB posts to work properly.  But once there you can translate.

No need for translation. The pictures speak enough.

It's a larger cem25 with anodized bits. And the cem120 worm switch mechanism. Looks good but for me the best would be an updated cem60. That would sort of hit the sweet spot.

Whoa. NVM facebook there's a whole unboxing and almost a review post on one of the forum with high res images.

Looks like it's almost ready the CEM40.

You folks should look for the thread there's a lot of pics. Including it looks like they realized people might want their cable ports on different sides of the dovetail plate.

It looks really nice in terms of apperance. Makes the existing iOptron mounts looks like yesterday's news.

So, there was this other thread (I forget which) that mentioned the CEM40 as a potential new product, so I emailed iOptron support about this.

I got back that yes, they should have a CEM40 soon, but could not share details, but apparently has good features of CEM25, 60 & 120, all CNC machines (no cast metal) and some unique features not found in current mounts -- and that it should be at NEAF.

Interesting.

If the price falls somewhere between the CEM25P and the CEM60, that might be my next new mount :)

Thanks for sharing the e-mail.

Hope it's USB 3.0 through the mount like the 120.

Try this one:

http://bbs.imufu.cn/...779999-1-1.html

6.4 kg weight, 18 kg payload claimed. And +/- 5 arc sec PE spec. The RA to DEC cable's gone as well, awesome.

And it looks like stainless steel counter weights. Wow they are pulling out the stop.

It has stainless steel CWs laugh.gif

6.4 Kg mount weight, 18 kg payload. PE spec of +/- 5 as well. No external cables unlike previous iOptrons.

Now they just need a CEM60 and 25 update to this sort of construction and they would have quite a line up.

Oh, bummer - looks like USB 3.0. Why?!? My CMOS cameras are NOT happy with USB 2.0.

Note that there is one USB 2 port and one 12 volt power port on the mount. That allows you to put a rig runner and a usb hub on the ota and have no dangling / moving cables at all. That's unless you are a USB 3 zealot.

Likely they don't have the space to fit a proper hub so they stuck with USB 2.0 as 3.0 has limited cable length that lots of people will run into trouble.

Personally I am not too concerned.

They dropped the Z and everything that has the worm clutch from them is called a CEM now.

My full-frame CMOSes eat up USB 2.0 and choke. Sigh.

Then why did they do it on the 120? I don't think there's a big difference in running USB 3.0 versus USB 2.0 through the mount. Weird. Why not future-proof it a bit?

120 has the active USB3 hub which acts as a repeater and extends the range of the USB 3 connection (there were some issues with the first batch of USB3 board btw in the cem120, some folks has resorted to just routing a USB 3 cable themselves through the 120 interiors). If they only put in a passive port in this CEM40 the total cable length from computer, through mount, and into your device would be counted against the USB 3 max cable length.
