This is kind of a re-post, but I am not sure if the original post was in the correct forum.  I managed to image ngc3344:   https://www.cloudyni...e-sliced-onion/

I found an object that doesn't have an identification when annotating it in pixinsight.  The object seems to look like a galaxy, but the image analysis and annotation seems to not notice it.  I even went to Simbad and it doesn't identify it; but I was able to use Simbad to get the Ra and Dec for it, which is : 10 43 0.878 +24 40 55.36

I assume that I am doing something wrong with image analysis and the annotation and maybe someone can point me to the correct library for this object.  I would like to know the id name for it.

Thanks for any help.

Alvaro

The image should show the object with a yellow arrow with respect to NGC3344 and there is also the annotated version showing that it is not marked. And a larger picture of the object inside the yellow dashed box.

Looks to be PGC 3759468.  A +15.77 magnitude spiral galaxy in Leo Minor.  Nice image.

PGC 3759468 = 2MASX 10430088+2440545 (where X=extended sources)

The GLADE catalog has a mag of B = 15.69

PA 82 deg

Thank you all.

With your information, I was able to find it in Aladin lite using both identifications: 2MASS 10430087+2440550 and 2MASX 10430088+2440545. Simbad will show it and mark it with a green cross but will not identify it, while it will mark the a star, a proper motion star and a galaxy that looks quite dinky compared to 2MASX 10430088+2440545.  I haven't found a catalog that uses this PGC code, but need to try harder, I suppose.  Wonder why it is hard to find in the catalogs, but the smaller galaxies are easier.

Thanks again.

Alvaro

Attached are screenshots of the 2MASX and GLADE ID's from Aladin.

You could also get these by searching all of the catalogues in Vizier very near the position:

http://vizier.u-stra.../viz-bin/VizieR

Also attached is part of the PGC record in HyperLEDA. In this link to the SQL query form

http://leda.univ-lyo...ld_fullsql.html

type

SELECT * WHERE de2000 > 24.681 and de2000 < 24.682 AND al2000 > 10.716 AND al2000 < 10.717 AND objtype='G'

Wow! thank you Catalogman, for sure I will use those links in the future.

BTW: Is all that knowledge why your call-name is Catalogman?

Thanks again,

Alvaro
