2019 AstroBlast announcement: August 27th to September 2nd

Come join The Oil Region Astronomical Society in Western Pennsylvania, and other regional amateur astronomers for the 2019 AstroBlast convention!

The dates for this year's AstroBlast will be from the evening of Tuesday, August 27th, to noon on Monday, September 2nd. (Labor Day Weekend).

This will be the second year that the new ORAS observatory, located at a dark-sky site in southeastern Venango County, PA, will be fully operational with a 30" f/3 Starstructure telescope, a Celestron 14" SCT GEM pier-mounted telescope, and a Meade 14"LX200 alt/az tripod mounted telescope, all under a roll-off roof.

Registration for the event will open later this summer, and attendees will be able to pre-register online, or during the event itself.

We expect to have a full schedule of speakers on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, as well as some of our traditional AstroBlast activities, such as a nature walk, swap meet, doorprize raffle, and a Saturday evening pizza party!

In addition to details being posted here, for further information about the convention and new observatory, please visit the Oil Region Astronomical Society's website at: http://www.oras.org/

Seems like a neat place Larry.  And well organized.  A very good value as well.  I just might get over there!

Hi Folks,

I would have liked to have taken the ride out this past week, but some personal matters required my attention at home. You new observatory and site look quite impressive and I would have liked to have learned more as to how your organization worked with your community to make that happen!

I do hope the weather was cooperative for the AstroBlast event, are there any attendee reports or images/videos posted someplace? Or, maybe, upcoming events (nothing posted on your calendar)?

:)

hi all,
Had a good time at the 2019 AstroBlast Star-party at the ORAS Observatory.
While the weather and my work schedule didn't cooperate, it was still fun getting together!
Here's my full report: http://www.stellar-j.../spr2019-AB.pdf
(It's a little brief this year, as i didn't take as many photos or notes as in past years).
